The Union Jack stood for quality, balance and power. And with its well-constructed warships and the able-bodied men who sailed in the King’s command, the Royal Navy in the Caribbean was a perfect example of British hegemony in the world. Shaken, but not broken. Challenged, but not beaten. Headstrong, persistent, ambitious.
Commodore Norrington, the great pirate hunter, was one of the Navy’s best representatives. He pursued his conquests with the determination of a born strategist. His reputation preceeded him. His men respected him and his enemies feared him. He was invincible.
James Norrington, however, considered himself far from invincible. Under the fancy brocade, there was a human being with dreams, desires and defects. A man who knew that there wasn’t only black and white and that the question wasn’t always of right and wrong. A man who found himself in love with exactly the person he should not have fallen for: Captain Jack Sparrow, pirate captain and good man, the epitome of an oxymoron.
Being human made him a target for hypocrisy, greed and envy, for law wasn’t flawless.
But love was.
And together with Jack Sparrow, James Norrington was invincible; probably stronger so than Commodore Norrington would ever be.
