I'm more or less back! Not quite recovered yet, my sinuses are still blocked, but at least I'm not feeling so weak anymore. I'll be back at work tomorrow, though I'm not looking forward to it. The weather is AWFUL at the moment. Last week it even snowed! I couldn't believe my eyes. And it's damn cold and wet, urgh. I bought two new woollen hats on Saturday (if anyone wants to see them, let me know), and I'm definitely going to wear one of them tomorrow.
What else is there to write about? Let's see...
- I've rediscovered my love for the Age of Sail fandom and particularly the Hornblower fandom (see shiny new icon of Mr Midshipman Orrock :D), so have three recs:
» Pellew's Pet by tinuvielberen (Hornblower/Bush, NC-17)
» Jack and Charles by jestana (Hammond/Orrock, PG)
» Finesse by thehappyreturn (Hornblower/Bush, R)
black_hound, thanks for your recs, I'll have a look at them as soon as possible! *glomps*
- Football was more or less okay this weekend, though I unfortunately didn't manage to see any match. Bayern took home three points from Freiburg, which was muchly needed, though the result itself (2-1) leaves much to be desired. Real beat Valladolid 4-2 at home, but the fact that they got two more goals scored against them tells me that the defense still isn't as good as it needs to be. I read that the goals weren't the fault of Casillas, so whose were they? Other than that, I'm still at a loss why Liverpool didn't manage to win in Sunderland. Granted, Gerrard and Torres weren't playing, but honestly, if we can't win without them anymore, we're fucked. Especially against Sunderland. The team had enough time to equalise after that early goal, and they should finally learn to make good use of the time they have. I don't want this to be another season without silverware, damn it. The Mancs are far too smug already. Oh, and Villarreal will be the death of me one day. Gonzalo Rodríguez got himself sent off AGAIN, and since they lost against the club they've depended on the previous matchdays (copying their results), they're now last in the league. Fuck. I don't want them to get relegated! :( Last but not least, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Athletic tonight. They had such a great start, they mustn't spoil it. *bites nails* (Thankfully, Barça only drew against Valencia, and Sevilla lost against Depor, hehe. XD)
- I have a question to those on my flist who are native speakers of English. In Germany, we have sort of an unwritten law along the lines of "the ass mentions himself first". Meaning that it's impolite to say "Me and my friend", and you should say "My friend and I" instead. I suppose a rule like this doesn't exist in English? I've come across a lot of native speakers of English who mention themselves first and was wondering.
- I wish people would pay more attention to the fic headers they post. Those of you who subscribe to footballslash might know what/who I'm speaking of. Some people don't seem to realise that they're advertising their fic with the header they're posting, and that misspelling the characters' names or leaving typos in the summary IS A BAD THING. I feel insulted by such carelessly crafted headers. Honestly, I don't remember having seen anything like this in any other fandom I've been in, and I've been in a lot. *headdesk*
- I have tickets for the friendly between the women's national teams of Germany and the USA in Augsburg at the end of October, and I'm very excited about it already! I haven't seen Augsburg's new Arena yet, and I've never seen a match of women's teams, so it will be a first in many ways. ;)
- Finally, have three music recs:
» Bon Jovi - We Weren't Born To Follow
» Daughtry - No Surprise
» Barclay James Harvest - Life Is For Living (Watch the vid if you want to see Jesus wearing a disco suit.)
Hope you're all well! I missed you loads! Thanks to those who wished me a speedy recovery! *glomps* I'll go and have a look at the things you linked me to as soon as possible!
