some people think football is a matter of life and death...

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that." (Bill Shankly)
This website is made of awesome, by the way. XD

Anyway, how thrilling was this football weekend? Well, at least if you're a fan of Liverpool, Bayern or Real Madrid, and I happen to adore all three of them. :D I'm still all giddy.

Let me start with Liverpool. WHO BEAT THE MANCS. IN THE LEAGUE. I still can't believe it. After Tévez's early goal (good assist by Berbatov), I thought it was over and we'd lose to them yet again, but the lads fought back. I suppose it must have been rather humiliating to get an own-goal, but if Wes Brown hadn't touched the ball and van der Sar hadn't missed it, Albert Riera (who played a very decent first game!) would have been there to nudge it in. After that, Liverpool pretty much dominated the game. Rooney did more defensive work than anything else, Berbatov's attempts to advance ended nowhere, and ManU sent so many passes into touch that one could have thought they'd lost all faith in themselves. The funny thing was that I kept texting bolanboogie about practically everything that happened, like Carrick limping after a tackle that was his fault to begin with, or Stevie coming on and almost preparing a goal for Manchester. (And Pepe making a fantastic save.) And then, suddenly, Masche did what he does best, went to extremes to keep the ball in the game and even made a good pass. Kuyt crossed the ball into the middle. And Babel slammed it in. I nearly died. My fingers shaked when I texted Jen about it, I was all OMG. Masche had to go off injured later, but then, Vidić got his second yellow, and all that was left to play was injury time. That was when I knew they wouldn't come back, and I was so thrilled. We really really needed this after those sub-par performances recently. And it was a most deserved victory, too. The lads played brilliantly, especially in the second half. I'm really proud of them. :D I knew I'd miss the Bayern game that day because of drama group rehearsals, but I was sure that no matter how that game would end, I'd be happy for the rest of the day. :) I'm 100% certain that the texting with Jen proved to be some sort of lucky charm and helped Liverpool win. :D *cuddles Jen*

Definitely my pic of the match because Carra totally made ManUnited's forwards despair with his brilliant tackles.

I didn't watch the Bayern game because I had drama group rehearsals at 4pm, I only caught a summary, but even though the game didn't seem that exciting, I'm definitely happy about the result. Toni scored twice (should even have completed a hattrick but was too unlucky) and obviously enjoys playing for Bayern (which is more than you can say about his relationship to the Azzurri at the moment), and even Podolski scored, which really really surprised me. Before the game, I would totally have betted my entire fortune on Poldi not scoring, because he never scores against teams he holds dear. It might not even be on purpose, but it's how it always turns out. Not this time. Having seen the goal, though... Well. The cross from Zé Roberto was so brilliant that Poldi couldn't really have put the ball anywhere else. *LOL* But I don't want to be mean - he definitely deserves some praise for preparing Toni's second goal. Anyway, that victory is damn important. And if Hamburg hadn't won, we'd be top of the league. Ah well, I'll be patient. XDD

On Sunday night, I went to my aunt and uncle's to watch Real - and got to see a completely mental game. 5 goals within about 30 minutes, and you never knew who would win - or if there would be a winner at all. Real's defense was non-existent. It was literally as if they weren't even on the pitch and Real was playing with a team of seven only. And Iker was furious. Not only was his defense made of utter fail, the rest of his teammates didn't seem to listen to him when it mattered, either. I remember that one scene when he tried to sort his wall for the free-kick Pepe caused, the one that led to Moreno's second goal (watch it here at 0:36). Iker had every right to be absolutely livid because not even one single player in the wall seemed to care about what he was trying to do. And then, van Nistelrooy didn't jump and the ball was in, right in the corner which the wall was supposed to guard. I have NO clue how Iker managed to keep calm and didn't throttle anyone, because I certainly would have been tempted to, had I been in his shoes. Fortunately, Real were only incompetent in the back. Guti scored Real's 5000th league goal (and deserved it too, it was an absolutely fantastic goal), Higuaín blew a huge chance but made up for that by scoring eventually, and van der Vaart replied to Barkero's lucky distance goal with an equally lucky goal from a sharp angle that Numancia's goalie should actually have parried. I didn't quite understand the sudden lapse, because Juan Pablo had parried everything he could at the beginning. And there was an own-goal, too, which Pepe tried to claim. In the end, Real definitely deserved the win because they had a lot more ball possession and dominated the game, whereas Numancia settled for counter attacks and merely reacted. Now we're 8th in the league - not the best, but we're showing a continuing upward trend, right? :D
