How incredibly frustrating. Switzerland played so well, with so much courage and fighting spirit and skill that it's really sad to see them out of the tournament. They even were the better team for most of the game, taking advantage of the soaking wet pitch. It was almost as if they knew how far the ball would roll and where it would stop, because they caught nearly every pass and perfectly timed their running. Turkey, on the other hand, displayed worrisome negligence in the defense and thus allowed Derdiyok to cross over from the right side to a completely free Yakin, who had all the time in the world to score the 1-0. (And aww, he immediately ran to the side to Frei, receiving a kiss on the cheek from his captain. How cute is that?) Turkey's equaliser might have been deserved considering the fact that they managed to come back into the game after the goal and showed good communication in the midfield (and also, Magnin fell asleep), but Turkey's victory implies that they were better than Switzerland, which was in no way the case. Arda's 2-1 was well executed (he worked his way from the side to the middle and then scored directly, without an assist), but it was very lucky because Müller unintentionally touched the ball with his heel and changed its direction. And Switzerland had a couple more chances, but they either wasted them with complicated ideas or were denied by the admittedly excellent Volkan.
Really, I'm not a happy football fan right now. :/
On a more shallow note: Can I just cuddle Philippe Senderos silly? When he landed face-down in the mud, I almost thought he'd start crying about his ruined kit, he totally looked like a kicked puppy dog. Aww. I bet he does that on purpose, to make me fall for him.
