Yesterday, my dad and I decided spontaneously to support our local club, FC Augsburg, in their quest to stay in the second league. They needed at least a draw to achieve that by themselves. In the case of a loss, they would have had to hope for the help of other teams.
The motto of the day was the following:
Translation: "We stay in!" (In the second league, that is.)
I didn't forget to bring my camera this time, so here are a couple of photos:
Our goalie (and captain) Sven Neuhaus during his warm-up exercises. (It was a lot of fun to watch him stretch - so much fun that I forgot to take a picture of that. XD)
The fanblock's choreography when the rest of the team got on the pitch to warm up.
Our players warming up.
"Oh when the reds go marching in..." XD (And the blues, of course.)
Over 23,000 people wanted to see this game, which is especially awesome because it was raining.
The little Jena fanblock. Aw. But they made a lot of noise throughout the whole 90 minutes, even though their team was already relegated a couple of matchdays ago.
The game was pretty bad most of the time. Both teams showed why they were either fighting against relegation or relegated already. Jena played a bit better than Augsburg, though, especially when it came to tackles. The FCA players seemed to shy away from tackles entirely, and there were a lot of misunderstandings. It kind of figured that after we finally scored the 1-0 (Dreßler with a header after a free-kick), Jena immediately scored the equaliser. *sigh* Near the end, I was almost afraid Jena would score again, but fortunately, they didn't. So the game ended 1-1, which means that FCA managed to stay promoted because of a better goal difference.
After the game.
Yeah, the weather sucked.
That's Felix Luz on the left, the striker we bought from FC St. Pauli last season. He hasn't really played often yet because of injuries (and being benched, too, yes), but when he did, he worked hard. At least that's what I think.
FCA's players kicked balls into the stands after the game. Some even tossed their jerseys into the fanblock. Aww. :)
The fans are celebrating.
Neuhaus and Uwe Möhrle, on loan from VfL Wolfsburg. I hope he won't leave us after this season, he played really well!
Roland Benschneider, one of our best defenders. (And very unlucky sometimes.)
The players even went towards the (rather unimportant) block I was standing in and thanked the people there for their support. ♥
I'm really glad we'll play in the second league again next season, especially because we're building a new stadium at the moment (one that will also host a couple of games for the Women's World Cup in 2011). However, that doesn't mean that we're not in need of major changes. I'm not too impressed with the club's decision to sack Ralf Loose on the fifth to last matchday and employ Holger Fach, because Loose would have secured our stay in the second league and Fach can't really make a difference with only a couple of matchdays left. Anyway, now that Fach is here, I expect him to train the team well over the summer, especially in what concerns tactics and tacklings. They resembled a bunch of headless chickens on more than just one occasion this season, and that needs to stop. They're not bad players as such, at least not most of them (though Szabics, Ledezma, Drobny and Hlinka seem to be), but they need clear strategical orders.
