6-0.
6-0!!!
OMG. I didn't think that was possible.
True, the goalie helped a lot because if he had caught the shots that preceded the first two goals, I'm sure the game would have ended differently and I probably would have been a nervous wreck at the end. BUT! We developed an intense goal hunger after the second goal, and everything worked out for us whereas nothing worked out for Saloniki.
And look at the scorer list!
1-0 Toni (25', assist by Ribéry)
2-0 Toni (38', assist by Ribéry)
3-0 Toni (64', assist by Ribéry)
4-0 Toni (66', assist by Lahm)
5-0 Lell (78', assist by Podolski)
6-0 Lahm (81', assist by Podolski)
Ribéry was utter brilliance tonight, and not just because he prepared those goals but because he was involved in all the major attacks and brought the ball forward with great speed and no fouls, despite the rather hard tacklings from his opponents.
Oh, and the 5-0 was Lell's first goal ever - he hasn't scored in any major tournament before, as far as I know. (I can't even remember any goals in friendlies.)
Now we're first in the group, and that means two things: firstly that we'll play against a third from a different group in our next two matches, and secondly that we'll have the away match first.
