I just updated the
other report of today's results with the new information from the ARD Sportschau.
Now, on to the other results. To summarize, today was the day of 2 misplayed penalties and 4 red cards.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs. VfL Wolfsburg - 0:0
Wolfsburg only scored 33 goals during the last season, and even the three relegated teams scored more, which is why Wolfsburg's trainer now ordered scoring training - which didn't help in the least. Wolfsburg was too passive, their forward didn't really get any good chances, and Klimowicz's penalty after the foul against Menseguez was successfully defeated by Frankfurt's goalkeeper Pröll.
There should have been another penalty for Wolfsburg because of a handball in Frankfurt's penalty area, but the referee didn't grant it.
On the whole, Frankfurt was the better team and Thurk (who had transferred from Mainz to Frankfurt after irreconcilable misunderstandings with Mainz's trainer Klopp) had extremely many chances to score, but it just didn't happen.
The red card for Kyrgiakos in the 87th minute was totally undeserved. True, he pushed Klimovicz away, but when Klimovicz fell and held his face, it was clear that he was just acting. Kyrgiakos didn't hit his face!
Teams:
- Frankfurt: Pröll - Rehmer (Ochs, 65.), Kyrgiakos, Vasoki, Spycher - Streit (Copado, 77.), Russ (Köhler, 46.), Huggel, Thurk, Meier - Amanatidis
- Wolfsburg: Jentzsch - Stegmayer, Quiroga, Madlung, Möhrte - Krzynowek (Menseguez, 59.), Santana, van der Leegte, Karhan - Klimovicz, Hoogendorp
Yellow cards:
- Frankfurt: Russ (27.), Streit (42. ), Copado (77., obvious diving in the opponent's penalty area), Huggel (89.) - red for Kyriakos (87.)
- M'Gladbach: Möhrle (70.)
Alemannia Aachen vs. FC Schalke 04 - 0:1
Because Schalke's starter keeper Rost injured himself during his training, Neuer replaced him for this game - it was his Bundesliga debut. Straub replaced Aachen's suspended keeper Nicht, who had seen the red card during the game against Leverkusen last week.
In the end, Schalke won short-handed, with 10 players on the field after Krstajic saw the red card for his kung-fu attack against Fiel in the 28th minute.
Aachen should have gotten a penalty in the 42nd minute because Bordon fouled Klitzpera within the penalty area. The referee didn't see it, though.
Rodriguez, a rather un-sportsmanlike player who always demanded cards for other players, scored the decisive goal in the 53rd minute after a free kick by Lincoln (which Schalke got because Halil Altintop was fouled).
It was Schalke's first away victory since March 2006, when they played against Hannover 96 and won 2:1.
Teams:
- Aachen: Straub - Pinto, Klitzpera, Sichone, Leiwakabessy - Fiel, Plaßhenrich (Koen, 75.), Rösler, Reghecampf (Dum, 70.) - Ebbers (Ibisevic, 67.), Schlaudra
- Schalke: Neuer - Kobiashvil, Krstajic, Bordon, Rafinha (Rodriguez, 35.) - Bajramovic, Ernst - Lövenkrands (Asamoah, 80.), Lincoln, Halil Altintop - Kuranyi (Hamit Altintop, 46.)
Yellow cards:
- Aachen: Pinto (43., wrestled with Ernst), Sichone (47., foul against Halil Altintop), Ibisevic (79., foul against Altintop), Koen (88., foul against Lincoln)
- Schalke: Lincoln (33., provoked his opponent), Ernst (43., wrestled with Pinto) - red card for Krstajic (28.)
Hamburger SV vs. Energie Cottbus - 2:2
Hamburg started this match with many problems:
- Bouhlarouz wants to transfer to Chelsea, which would mean that Hamburg would lose another defense player after Daniel van Buyten
- a false start into this season's Bundesliga would be a great shame for a team which achieved the Champions League last year
- after the rather unsuccessful Champions League game against Osasuna, the championship threatens to end for the HSV, and it's unclear if the game next Tuesday will be succesful, because...
- ... many players are injured, such as Kompany or Atouba
Considering all this, it's not too hard to understand that Cottbus had a much better start into this game. In the 13th minute already, the ball landed in Hamburg's goal, but Chao, the scorer, stood offside when the ball was sent to him. Cottbus was denied another chance to score shortly after that, when the deserved penalty wasn't given.
Sanogo finally made up for Hamburg's shameful start and scored an absolutely beautiful goal into the upper right corner in the 38th minute.
In the 55th minute, Cottbus finally got a penalty because Hamburg's Jarolim prevented a goal by smacking Kukielka's ball away with his hand. Munteanu kicks the penalty - Hamburg's keeper Kirschstein has no chance at all. This handball wasn't "awarded" with the red card, though, because the referee assistants had seen the handball but they hadn't seen the offender and didn't know who to punish.
The 2:1 in the 69th minute was ingenious: Radu kicked the ball over Kirschstein, who was already lying on the floor because of a previous attack.
The 2:2 was an own goal by Cottbus' keeper Piplica, who wanted to parry a kick by de Jong and led it into the goal instead.
Some minutes after that, there was confusion on the field. The referees were overtaxed, apparently Sanogo should have gotten the red card for having kissed an opponent (OMG, why did I miss that?), but instead, Demel got the red card for choking an opponent, and that didn't happen at all. WTF?
Teams:
- Cottbus: Piplica - da Silva, McKenna, Mitreski, Ziebig - Rost, Kukielka (Baumgart, 82.) - Küntzel, Shao (Gunkel, 46.), Munteanu - Radu
- Hamburg: Kirschstein - Klingbeil, Reinhardt, Demel, Mahdaviki - Trochowski (Wicky, 75.), van der Vaart (Laas, 90.), de Jong, Jarolim - Sanogo, Guerrero (Lauth, 59.)
Yellow cards:
- Cottbus: Rost (51., foul against Jarolim)
- Hamburg: Jarolim (40.), Sanogo (51.) - red card for Demel (80.)
SV Werder Bremen vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen - 2:1
Werder started with an advantage: Diego, Brazilian, 21 years of age. His idol: Zidane.
Leverkusen started with a disadvantage: Schneider and Juan were injured and couldn't play.
But both teams fought hard and in the end, they would have been equal if the score didn't say otherwise. Bremen had huge defence problems and Leverkusen a great forward team with Barbarez and Kießling. The bad thing was that despite Werder's bad defence, Leverkusen missed many great chances to score, just because of bad luck (post hits, missing the goal by mere inches, etc.).
Leverkusen got a penalty in the 15th minute, after Pasanen had chopped down Kießling, and Freier kicked and scored. Werder's reply to that followed only 11 minutes later, when Klose scored one of his famous header goals after a free kick by Diego.
There was one headdesk moment in the 70th minute, when Klose crossed the ball to Almeida and the forward missed the goal, even though he was standing 1 metre away from it and the keeper wasn't even in front of him. And no, he wasn't in an offside position, either.
At least, he made up for that 7 minutes later. After a mistake in Leverkusen's midfield, Frings started a counter attack, passed to Diego, Diego flanked to Almeida and Almeida scored.
Actually, Diego was the star of the game, convincing everyone of his magic by doing a trick with his heel and a scissors kick, which would have been one of the most beautiful goals in history if it hadn't missed the goal.
Teams:
- Bremen: Wiese - Fritz, Pasanen, Andreasen (Jensen, 56.), Wome - Frings, Baumann (Schulz, 71.), Diego, Borowski - Klose, Klasnic (Almeida, 46.)
- Leverkusen: Butt - Stenman (Athirson, 86.), Madouni, Haggui (Callsen-Bracker, 73.), Castro - Rolfes, Ramelow - Barnetta (Voronin, 81.), Barbarez, Freier - Kießling
Yellow cards:
- Bremen: Borowski (28.), Almeida (79., elbow check)
- Leverkusen: Haggui (37., complaining), Freier (57., foul against Diego)
Is anyone reading this, by the way? Because it takes a lot of time to write this. Just saying. :)
