The minute I read that Michael Cochrane was in the movie - once again - I knew that it would be a good movie. Not because I like him, not at all, but he's that sort of "parasite" that - by chance or by some higher power - only happens to appear in the really really great Sharpe movies like Sharpe's Eagle and Sharpe's Sword.
The movie already amused me right at the beginning when
Wellington tricked Sharpe into going on that mission for him by cleverly having him meet Harper's wife. Really, quite a lot of people can learn something from Wellington when it comes to cunning schemes. *giggles* Oh, but Wellington looks different! I know that it's still the same actor, but Hugh Fraser has changed a lot since the last Sharpe movie I've seen with him... O_O Weird!
Oh, and before I forget - it's not really clever to try and kill off Sharpe at the beginning of the movie when we know there are 90 minutes of his heroic deeds to follow! *snicker* Didn't believe that for a second!
That Indian king, or whatever he is, I can't understand that properly and there are no subtitles, is very hot. And I don't mean the old one at the beginning. And yes, I'm not supposed to like him, I know. *is shallow*
And here we are. Henry Simmerson, as expected, having someone flogged again, as if he hasn't learned anything. I really wonder why he's still there - and a general! He should be demoted, and really fast. Doesn't Horse Guards see that he's of NO USE AT ALL? *sigh*
Oh - villain. He's ugly, isn't he? So - obviously bad. *shudders* Can I kill him?
WHAT IS THAT MAN'S NAME? Sergeant Biggerstaff? AHAHAHAHA!!! (Okay, it's Bickerstaff, but it's still hilarious.)
WAH! Sharpe doesn't kill Harper, does he? O_O *bites nails* Of course he doesn't. *relieved sigh* Evil writer!
OMG! *LOL* "British Grenadiers". Simmerson really has the best marching music - but once again, that's not his merit. Major Edrington, kill him for having stolen your theme!
Halfway through the movie now and I'm beginning to have a good idea. What if the king marries his hostage and Sharpe marries the king's younger sister? Okay, it didn't quite turn out like that, but at least, they got rid of Bickerstaff later. I'm pleased.
And they're singing "Heart of Oak" again. Everything must go well now. I never thought I'd be so glad to see a Frog.
Okay, I've finished the movie. It was good!!! Really good. Alas, Simmerson is still alive (and even more shamed now, so I guess he'll continue being a thorn in Sharpe's side. But the king's sister is alive (the good one) and the king, too. Seems everything worked out well and I'm glad it did.
And did I mention that Beanie really gets better and better with age? *drools*
Thank you so much,
shipotl, for letting me see this! *squee*
