Catching up with shows has been glorious. It's so nice to watch several episodes in a row, I so rarely get to do it anymore. I would wait it out if I had enough willpower, but I'm too impatient to do that.

Anyway, some thoughts. Not too spoilery, but I'll put it behind a cut anyway.

Finished Dexter season 5. Really interesting direction they took this season, and I enjoyed it a lot. Not near the greatness of season 4, though. It's going to be hard to top a villain like Trinity. I thought Julia Stiles did pretty well, though. I think I would rank it only above season 3, though. It's coming back, right?? I haven't heard anything about it.

I just found out that Caprica was canceled today. I guess it was kind of suspicious that all the episodes hadn't aired by the time I got back, but I didn't think about it too much. At least they were leaked! I'm not that torn up about its cancellation, especially since there is another BSG prequel that just got greenlit (weird how that happened). But I do think it started to get a lot better towards the end (I still have 3 episodes left, too). Anyway, I hope the producers learned some lessons that they can apply toward the new BSG prequel *coughpacingcough*

Also, I watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire. They were good, but I much preferred the books. They seem to be the type of stories that are best served by a book series. There is too much detail and backstory and complexity to be covered in a movie. Some of the characters got completely glossed over, and they took out important bits of the story. I thought they made a good choice regarding the actress who played Salander, but Blomkvist wasn't at all how I imagined him.

In case anyone was wondering, the books I got around to reading on the trip are:
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
Animal Farm
Kite Runner
The Great Gatsby
Mansfield Park (haven't finished)

We had a lot of time on the train...
