cookies are infuriating buggers

I ate my last chocolate chip cookies last night. GOD THEY WERE GOOD. But it was a trial to get them. I finally stole real butter from mom and made them the right way and made sure that I had my regular flour. And sampled the dough during the entire process. By the time the cookies were done I wanted nothing ever to do with chocolate chip cookies ever again ever. But by last night I was ready for them. I first got the idea to make chocolate chip cookies over the weekend. Easy, right? NOT WHEN YOU ARE BLONDE!

First of all, I use butter/yoghurt blend stuff since I think margarine is the work of the devil. I buy butter, but only when I need it, so I didn't have any. But I was desperate for cookies! Thus, I used the blend. It does not cook well.

I mixed up half a batch of cookie dought. It wasn't right. The texture was wrong and the taste was... 85%. Not bad, but not... you know, cookie dough goodness. So in my brilliance I thought 'I'll just mix up the other half, sans the butter, and add it in to what I already have mixed.' I hadn't yet added the chips, so I thought this was quite brilliant. So I did it.

Good work, Charlie Brown. The texture was much much improved and the taste was up to 95%. You'd never know the difference. So I added the rest of the flour, mixed well, added chips and cookied. 8 minutes of perfect. The colour was a touch odd, but I attributed that to the yoghurt butter stuff.

Until I tasted one.

When I make cookies I use self rising flour because I like them cakey and I'm lazy: I hate adding salt and soda. Too much work. Plus I use sea salt grinders and spit in the direction of iodised salt in a can. Apparently however, someone bought me a bag of all purpose flour because THAT IS WHAT THESE COOKIES WERE BAKED WITH! THEY WERE HORRIBLY TASTELESS AND VILE!

I ground out half a tablespoon of sea salt, added a few pinches of baking soda into the remainder of the dough, mixed it best I could and cooked the rest. They weren't bad, but basically I ended up with chocolate chip cookies good for indigestion. Not exactly how I want to market my cooking prowess.

In other news, petboy is upset because he thinks the cats are smarter than he. They refuse to eat the vegetarian meatballs and he is sure it is because they know it isn't meat whereas he can't really tell a difference. It miffs him.

Last but not least, I haven't written a lick of fanfic as I've been caught up researching the Ottoman empire because I've decided to write a historical romance novel. That's right. Go on, laugh. Now if I could just figure out how to quite work and spend the summer in Turkey, I'd be set. I mean, I'd be much more inspired yeah?
