Day 3: It was really gray and rainy out, so we decided to find inside activities. We headed downtown for the aquarium, but we got sidetracked by the Seattle Art Museum. It is huge! The Pacific Northwest exhibit was exciting. My favorite piece in this collection was a set of cereal box looking objects, like "Treaty-O's," which had for its "nutritional breakdown" things like "100% lies." *Ouch*! They had also some fantastic early American sterling ware. I had just worked my way though the first floor and was heading up to the African exhibit when the ladies said they needed refreshment and rest. So, we trotted on to a coffee shop, because hey, Seattle!
Pike Place Market was right across the street, and the drizzling had stopped, so we wandered around in there. It was a solidly great place for souvenirs. Unfortunately, this meant we were too late to hit the aquarium :( No worries, we still had some days. We caught the bus home and got ready for dinner. We were meeting
cmat at 8 at Coastal Kitchen (so far one of my very favorite places). As we were leaving, my mom fell on the stairs and really hurt her knee. I suspect all of the walking we had done over the last two days was just too strenuous for that bum knee. She insisted we go on without her, but we did bring something tasty back.
Day 4: Mom was still laid up, but she really wanted us to go enjoy some sights. My aunt, Bonnie (mom's school friend), and I decided to go to the conservatory at Volunteer Park. The Seattle Asian Art Museum is there as well, but sadly it is closed on Mondays (made even more sad by the fact the tickets we bought at SAM include a free visit to the Asian Museum! However, it is good for a week, and I think C and I can visit on Saturday). Aunt Sharon and I had been once to the conservatory, but it was really nice to see the seasonal changes. They have a large jade plant that is more tree-like now, and it is almost set to bloom. I am going to have to return to see that! While on the way to the observatory, we picked up a huge amount of chestnuts that were all over the park. We'd never seen them growing, and we had visions of roastign those suckers! It was so exciting! We had a nice lunch at Hopvine, a local pub. Later that night, after consulting teh interweb, we roasted the chestnuts. They were awful! They smelled a bit like potatoes, but they had this seriously disgusting bitter aftertaste.
Day 5: Bonne left in the early afternoon, and mom, Aunt Sharon, and I relaxed at home for a while. Aunt Sharon accompanied me on an errand run, and we went for an early dinner. Mom and Aunt Sharon left the following afternoon.
