Jack Swagger def. World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho
Moments after an irate Edge blasted his Wrestlemania opponent, Chris Jericho, with The Spear, Mr. Money in the Bank, Jack Swagger, emerged to leave the entire WWE Universe breathless. Without warning, “The All-American American” stormed onto the scene, nailing the unsuspecting Ultimate Opportunist from behind with his newly-acquired Money in the Bank briefcase. Frantically calling for an official, Swagger proceeded to cash in his championship opportunity, pinning Jericho for the World Title after the Gutwrench Powerbomb heard ’round the world. Swagger’s monumental triumph came just four days after he attempted to use his Money in the Bank position on Raw against John Cena, only to rescind the decision at the last second.
Later, after both Jericho and Edge interrupted Swagger’s first "State of the Championship Address," SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long made an earth-shattering announcement. Next week, the two decorated Superstars will battle in a No. 1 Contender’s Match for the right to face "The All-American American."
When chaos erupted seconds later, the new World Champion hit two more Gutwrench Powerbombs - one on “the best in the world at what he does” and one on The Rated-R Superstar.
I read spoilers about this on Tuesday and I was completely SHOCKED. However, I do like Jack Swagger. He can be a bit dull, but I like the idea of him being World Heavyweight Champion. He's had championship experience being ECW champion before coming to RAW. So it's not unlikely that he can hold that title. Not like the Shaemus title reign blasphemy. Swagger did get a pop when he said he wanted to cash in his MITB contract and the crowd even chanted, "ring the bell," as referee Mike Chioda took his sweet time clearing the ring before signaling to ring the bell. I like it so far, I hope WWE has something great up their sleeves for Swagger. I do feel so bad for Chris Jericho though. Just look at his sad pic. I love Jericho and I wanted him to keep the WHC for a whole lot longer, but I got him retaining at Wrestlemania 26, so I can't complain too much. It was an all around good Smackdown. I can't wait for next Friday.
