Quick Thoughts About The Vampire Diaries E17 "Break On Through"
Okay I had A LOT of problems with this episode. Caroline Forbes was not one of them. Again, Caroline proves why she is one of my two favorite characters on this show. Caoroline's resolves and good nature makes her incredibly wise beyond her years. Her lectures to not only Jamie, but Abbey as well were some of her best to date. Love her.
Now onto what I didn't like...
Damon/Sage/Rebekah. Yuck. Sage can go DIAF. She was absolutely pointless. The overt sexuality of their scenes in this episode were just a bit too much IMO. I was no okay with Damon and Sage exploiting Rebekah's insecurities to get what they want. I don't care how evil the girl may be. It was offensive and degrading, and didn't sit well with me at all. Usually I can overlook the blatant disregard for woman and gender issues with this show, but this time it really rubbed me the wrong way. In the end, Sage betrayed Damon (surprise, surprise) and if Damon's wasn't as clever as he was then they would be royally screwed. I don't get the need for Sage. Her loyalty to Finn (who is just as boring) is not interesting in the slightest. No thanks. Maybe I'm being to harsh with Sage, but I just see her as another newbie that we could have done without.
Bonnie and Elena's "friendship" makes no sense whatsoever. Bonnie's mom has been turned into a vampire and the difficult task of transitioning is taking it's toll on everyone who cares about her. However, that doesn't matter to Elena because Elena needs help. It's all about Elena as always. So Elena needs help, well then Bonnie should rush over right? Forget that she's dealing with her own issues. Elena needs help NOW. Yes, I get that it was for Alaric, but what makes him more important than Abbey? In the end, Abbey was able to run away (again) and Bonnie's absence just made it that much easier for her to abandon her (again). I just can't with this friendship. The show told us time and time again that Bonnie and Elena were the best friends. That Caroline was a part of the group, but didn't have that connection like B/E did. That may have been true in S1, but I honestly believe where Elena has failed in being a "best friend" Caroline has thrived. It's just sad that Elena made it about her in the kitchen scene with Bonnie and asked Bonnie to forgive her and in true Bonnie form she did. I just wish we could have seen Bonnie give Elena some sort of grief about it. Again, she was robbed of her feelings because Elena felt guilty. Ugh.
Stefan, Alaric and Meredith were all made of win. No gripes about them at all.
Oh and the Wickery Bridge made out of the White Oak tree...I totally called that on my tumblr last week. Go me! LOL.
Plus...JEREMY!! I was not expecting on seeing him, but it was a very welcomed surprise. I'm glad he seems to be doing well. I guess we can assume with Elena's phone call and her questions about Alaric, that Jeremy definitely senses something is up. This could lead back to him returning to MF. Yes please!
