Life & Fandoms

I’m going to try and take back my LJ from the neglect that’s claimed it over the last year.  I want to be regularly posting actual text posts along with my graphic posts.  Balance it out and all that.

So we’ll start with real life junk and move onto rambley rambles on different fandoms.  My life is uneventful and for the most part kind of sad.  My social life is non-existent.  I miss having fun lol.  I lost track and connection with friends.  I still talk to the ones I’ve had since like 2nd grade on face book, but we haven’t seen each other in a long time.  They were looking forward to catching up with me this past weekend at our fall festival, but I decided to skip it due to my lameness and the weather.  It was more my lameness.  I was so tired and my brothers went Friday night and had no intention of repeating their craziness on Saturday so I stayed home with them.  I love my brothers, but spending almost every weekend with them is getting annoying.  To me and them.  Of course we enjoy each other’s company, but sometimes we need “me time.”  *Sigh* I need a life…and a man.  Whichever comes first. ; )

Fandoms: Where do I begin?

The Vampire Diaries:

I really do love this show, but I don’t love all the characters.  I am NOT a Damon fan.  He makes me laugh here and there, but I don’t see the character development everyone (Damon fans) seems to speak of.  He’s your standard woobie and even though he has a funny line here and there, I, for the most part, can’t stand him.  It’s only when he’s with Stefan that I find myself liking him.  It’s that bond between brothers that I find so intriguing.  The triangle with Stefan, Elena and Damon can go DIAF.  I’m over it.

Jeremy.  Jeremy, Jeremy, Jeremy.  I love him and I’ve tried to give his storyline a legit chance, but I’m mostly bored.  Until this past episode.  I was a big shipper of Jeremy and Anna and S1 and I was sick of her lingering in the back, while Vicki was getting all the buzz.  So I felt incredibly satisfied with everything about him and Anna in “Disturbing Behavior.”  Anna has this calm innocence about her that I found so endearing when she was alive.  They are just cute together okay?  Dead vampire or not, they belong together lol.

Stefan/Kluas/Rebekah.  Love these three.  I just wish there wasn’t so much time spent on them.  I feel like we can reach the point the writers are trying to get to without so many scenes.  The interaction between these three characters is entertaining to watch, the actors have great chemistry, but I lose interest when I shouldn’t and get bored.  Less is more TVD writers.

Elena and Bonnie.  No comment.

Now to my FAVORITE part of TVD…Tyler and Caroline.  Can I just flail and squee over their epic adorableness for a minute here?  These two are the best thing TVD has going for it right now.  Is that shipper bias? Maybe, but as a fan of the overall show, Tyler and Caroline make the show for me at the end of the day.  Their development, not only as individual characters, but as friends and lovers have been the most compelling part of TVD since S2.  Turning Caroline into a vampire was genius on Kevin Williamson’s part.  That’s why we love him, because the dude knows his stuff.

What I love about Caroline is that turning into a vampire didn’t bring her down, but it added to her character development.  Her vampirism intensified her personality and that didn’t have the negative affect that so many speculated it would.  That’s because Caroline was always caring, affectionate and all around kick-ass.  So many dismissed her in S1, but becoming a vampire gave Caroline the confidence she needed to finally gain the respect and love she deserved from her family and friends.

Enter Tyler Lockwood.  If you’ve been a fan of the show since the Pilot, then you know all too well about the dick that Tyler was.  Key word being was.  The writers have done an amazing job with his character.  He’s not your standard woobie and I love that so much about him.  He doesn’t follow the same woobie guidelines that so many other characters seem to do in other shows and books.  Tyler’s development as a character was his own.  As we came to the end of S1, we saw a shift in Tyler.  He was beginning to see the person he was and becoming and decided that he wanted to change for HIMSELF.  His decision to better himself wasn’t on the pretense on getting the girl or anything like that and I love that about him.

Tyler and Caroline’s relationship is based on a friendship, understanding and respect.  Tyler’s relationship with women in general since S1 has become positive and it’s clear with his scenes with Caroline and his mother.  I love that the TC friendship was able to empower both characters.  Her support of him allows him to be open and supportive of her as well.  They have accepted each other whole-heartidly.

Plus, they are so darn cute. I mean, come on!

Supernatural:

This show owns my soul.  I was unsure going into this season what the writers where going to go with the storylines and our beloved characters.  I can say that I’m more intrigued and excited about this season than I was about S6.

I’m LOVING Sam’s PTSD storyline right now.  With all my personal and family issues, this storyline is really hitting home and I’m eating it up.  Jared is doing a wonderful job, kudos dude.  SIDE NOTE: A very big congratulations to Jared and Genevieve on their announcement of expecting their first child.  I'm very happy for both of them. :)

I’m conflicted for the first time when it comes to Dean.  I love both brothers, but I can relate more to Dean on the “oldest sibling and dealing with a younger sibling with issues” level.

When Dean killed Amy at the end of 7x03 I was speechless.  Nick, my 17 year old brother, was watching with me and was very much Team Dean.  He said life was hard for humans and monsters.  Monsters kill people and The Winchesters are hunters period.  Black and white.  Very much like how Dean was in S1, but over the years Dean was living in these beautiful shades of gray and his growth as a character felt compromised when he killed Amy, unknowingly, in front of her son.

I thought about it over and over again and I’m stuck in the middle.  On one side, I can see my brother’s point.  In the end, Dean and Sam are hunters and killing monsters is their job.  Keeping the human race safe from beings that would do us harm is their calling and the only thing they know how to do and know how to do well.  Whether or not Amy said she wouldn’t kill again, Dean knew she would and that wasn’t a chance he was willing to take.

That’s not what bothered me, it was how cold he was in doing.  How he went behind Sam’s back and now we are back to square one.  After the hell we have been through in the last seasons, having the brothers back on the same page is something I’ve been waiting and waiting for.  When Sam got his soul back and hugged Dean, I mean really hugged him, I was elated.  Our boys were back together again.  Now, we have them keeping secrets from each other and that means a lack of trust.  That’s not cool with me.

So I’m torn.  Was Dean right in what he did, or was he wrong?  I don’t know.  It’s conflict that I am not sure I want to relive again.  I know after six seasons, storylines are going to hard to come by and some are going to be recycled, but really?  Can’t we just have the boys back in The Impala and for once be in the fight together, really together?  It’s not asking much.
