So the tech install upheaval is done except for the cable box sync aspect of things (an hour late and with very little help from the onsite tech), but that leaves me with a quandry...
I've got a Series 2 TiVo and a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100 cable box. The TiVo has a control port so it can change the channel on the cable box. Options for control cables are Serial (plugging in to a 9-pin serial port, which doesn't exist on the 3100) and IR Transmitters (which I've heard can be painfully slow).
The sad thing is, I don't have either cable since we've been using the TiVo without a cable box for years and they seem to have walked off.
So. I was hoping there exists a hack whereby a TiVo can talk USB to a cable box and everything's happy. Fat chance, I know.
Failing that, does anyone have the IR Control Cable that I can use? I'm trying to avoid a) paying cash and b) waiting for a cable to ship from Godnozewhere, California.
Any pointers would be most welcome.
EDIT: Also looking for a Linksys USB200M so I can get rid of my land line. Found on eBay for $19, but if a closer and cheaper option exists on GweepRelay, I'd much prefer to go that route. I'll probably xpost this to Gweep tomorrow, but I'll give it tonight in my journal to keep the noise down over there. Thanks!
