Giles nodded. "Well, that's precisely why we need to talk to them."
Just then, Joyce's voice could be heard near the stairs. "Dawn, honey, what are you doing up at this hour? Go back to bed."
He met Jenny's slightly-widened eyes, assuming they both had the same thought -- how much had the young girl heard?
"I was just getting a snack," they heard Dawn reply.
And Buffy, looking equally-alarmed, yelled over her shoulder, "Dawn, are you listening?"
"I can get a snack if I want to!" she shot back childishly, then soft stomping could be heard as she went back upstairs.
Buffy turned to him with wide eyes. "She was listening."
Willow shrugged. "Does it matter? I mean, is she really gonna set the junior high school buzzing with 'ooh, there's a delegation a-coming?'"
And Buffy, once again needing to rein herself in from revealing too much information to her friends, shook her head slowly. "No I, I guess not. You know, it's just... sometimes we... say stuff, and, and... it's all good." She turned to him, the look in her eyes begging him to save her from putting her foot in her mouth. "Giles, you were saying... something?"
He slipped a hand into his pocket. "Um, just that... if the Council knows something about Glory, her agenda or her origins, then..." he sighed. "Then maybe it will help us get a, a grip on what we're dealing with. Right now I think we're, a bit lost."
"Any word on when they'll be here?" Anya asked, then looked at everyone when they looked at her. "What? If they're ex-demon hunters, I need a proper heads-up so that I can go into hiding!" Quieter, she added, "Or summon a quick legion of violent followers to take them out."
Giles suppressed the smirk, always amused by the girl's bluntness. "They'll be arriving sometime tomorrow, if Quentin Travers' words were any indication. And," to Anya directly, he added, "I don't believe you'll need to concern yourself with hiding."
She winced. "It's too late already, huh?"
He smiled. "The Council is not on a hunt for ex-demons."
"Still." She turned serious, frowning. "Just in case, I'd better get my human-y backstory straight."
