All's fair in love and war - I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY BUT THIS IS SO SO SO GILES/JENNY. I DON'T EVEN KNOW. DON'T ASK ME TO EXPLAIN BECAUSE YOU'LL GET A SCARY ESSAY. OMG. SCARY ESSAY, I'LL TAKE IT. ANY ESSAY OR DISSERTATION ON THE SUBJECT OF GILES/JENNY, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO READ. You think I'm joking. Think again. LOL. But no, I really think this old adage does apply to their relationship -- it definitely coincides with the whole sexy button-pushing/snarking stuff they had down so well. JOSS WHEDON IS MILDLY RETARDED, I'VE JUST DECIDED.
And I agree that the show really needed another adult voice. Joyce Summers wasn't in the series enough to really provide that -- what they really needed was an adult foil for Giles. Which is EXACTLY what Whedon had in Jenny. From the very first second, she was established as a brilliant foil for Giles' personality, and Joss threw it away. SEE? RETARDED. I AM SMART, HE IS DUMB. ANNIE - 1, JOSS - 0. GAME OVER.
Question: do you think, had Jenny been included in the rest of the series as we would have loved, we would've seen more or less of Ripper!Giles? I really think we would have seen more. Jenny was SO good about bringing him out of his shell and getting him to loosen up. By season six, I would think he'd be pretty loose. LOL. And I think if marriage and/or family had been tossed in the mix, he would have gotten even more protective and been even more prone to those little Ripper moments.
(ALSO my Giles/Anya shipper totally does not come to this corner of the internetz *cough* but Giles describing Anya as a 'very beautiful woman' - *melts*) HEEEE! I will always make sure to throw in the occasional Giles/Anya moment for my fellow G/A shippers. :D

D'awwwwwww at Giles thinking of Jenny as 'the one' :D I'm sorry but that is completely canon. There was never anyone of note after Jenny :'( It's so true. After Jenny died, we never got to see Giles happy or in love with anyone else. He just had his couple of empty little trysts, and that was it. :(
