Statement Regarding Managing Director Johnny Kitagawa
2019.07.09
Thank you very much for your kind consideration.
This is a statement concerning the Managing Director Johnny Kitagawa.
Johnny Kitagawa passed away at 4.47PM on 9th July 2017 in a hospital in the city centre. Aged 87, his cause of death was a
subarachnoid haemorrhage from a
ruptured cerebral aneurysm.
Every single day, Johnny was always deeply grateful to the fans who supported the talents that he had nurtured, as well as all the people concerned who supported his creations and made it possible for him to nurture his talents. On his behalf, we would like to express our gratitude.
At about 11.30AM on 18th June 2019, Johnny had complained of some abnormalities in his condition, then lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital. After being transported there, he was placed in the intensive care unit and underwent rigorous lifesaving measures before he was transferred to a general ward where, thanks to the cooperation of the hospital, Johnny was able to receive the talents and Juniors whom he regarded as his own children as visitors. The days that Johnny spent with his talents at the hospital were irreplaceable.
Music both new and old was played in his ward, and the oldest talents to the youngest Juniors all shared their memories of Johnny; it was a most pleasant and harmonious time. To ensure that Johnny would not be lonely for even a single moment, the talents took it in turns between their busy schedules to visit. Eating Johnny’s favourite food together with him became part of their daily routine, and the sights and sounds of that resembled old times in the rehearsal rooms as everyone reminisced over nostalgic memories. Occasionally, Johnny had some difficult moments and called his talents to his side, where they would comfort him until the moment passed. As his talents spent time with him, for a while, miraculously, it seemed that he would be on the road to recovery. The deep bond was clearly tangible, almost like a father and his children. And then, surrounded by the love of his most beloved children, he passed away at 4.47PM on 9th July 2019.
A little while before he collapsed from his illness, he was still spending his days stopping by at the theatres or studios. Especially for the Juniors whose performances he personally supervised day by day, passionately giving them guidance, Johnny was still very much their producer. Indeed, he was the producer of many careers and lives.
Since the establishment of Johnny & Associates in 1962, Johnny has been always involved in the production of entertainment. The one thing that cannot be separated from Johnny’s entertainment is his talents. He has since raised countless talents and consistently not only wished for the best for their careers but also their own personal growth. At the time of the company’s establishment, nobody would have imagined how far the talents would go, now flourishing in various fields while supported by an incredible number of people. For that, we are eternally grateful.
Something that Johnny has continually told us is that, the ones to inherit his will are the talents who he ceaselessly nurtured, and that those talents and company staff would bring entertainment and happiness to the world. That is something that we as the Johnnys Group will not change.
Also, he has always wished from the bottom of his heart that the world will always be able to enjoy entertainment and a future of peace and fulfilled aspirations. From here on, the talents and staff both will take over that wish of his. Each of us will play our part in and devote ourselves to conveying Johnny’s wish to the world, both talents and staff alike, so by all means we appreciate your guidance.
Once again, to all the fans as well as all the people involved, we are most grateful. Also, during the period of hospitalization, from all the hospital staff involved to all those who have supported us, we thank you and we are grateful from the bottom of our hearts.
Regarding the wake and the funeral service, it is currently for Johnny’s children, family, his talents and the Juniors only. We thank you for your kind cooperation and understanding.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to whom Johnny was indebted to say goodbye and pay their respects; this will be announced in due time.
We are terrible sorry for any inconvenience, but we will not be taking individual enquiries or requests for interviews at this time. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
