I've finally returned from my travels across the country and what a marvelous time I had!
San Francisco was amazing. However, the flight out there was a complete nightmare. We boarded the plane an hour late, only to find that the plane had been damaged while they were loading the luggage and that we had to get on another plane. While waiting for that one to be prepared, we were delayed another few hours and then found that our flight was cancelled altogether. After scrambling around to figure out what we were going to do, my travel companions and I discovered that we were all on different flights at different times. I ended up going to Cincinatti and then connecting to San Fran. from there on a different airline (Delta, which ended up being SOOO much better than Northwest!). I finally got in around 12:30, 8 hours later than scheduled, only to find that my luggage had not arrived with me. Fantastic. The luggage finally arrived on Sunday, 2 days later, and the rest of the trip was pretty smooth. The event went very very well, and I had a lot of time to get out and explore the city.
My friend James met me one night for dinner and drinks. We ate awesome sushi, walked around downtown for a bit and then popped into a bar for a drink. It was so interesting to chat with him, because he works for a paper about an hour north of the city and was telling me what's been going on in the state and different things about the people, culture, etc. I think I have a little crush on California. I'll add it to the list...
Wednesday I actually had a lot of free time to roam around and managed to make it to Chinatown, Ghirardelli Square and the Golden Gate Bridge. I also managed to stumble onto Lombard Street but wasn't near the famous 'crooked' part. I returned to my room exhausted from all that walking around and treated myself to room service. I have to say, there is something about eating food in your pjs while on a really really comfortable bed that makes it worth the splurge. Then again, not like I was paying for it :)
I left 77 degree weather and came back to Michigan where it was just above 0. There's something so unfair about that. Saturday morning Chris and I flew to NYC to hang out with Team Brooklyn and see The Arcade Fire.
The show was absolutely amazing. We got there right when the doors were opened and managed to get right up front. The crowd was peppered with celebs that I was too afraid to go talk to, and the band played their first song (Wake Up) in the middle of the audience. NPR actually recorded the show and its their newest podcast on "All Songs Considered", go download it now! After the concert we braved the subway and met up with my friends for kareoke. I just sat here for about a minute trying to sum up the night and I couldn't. Let's just say that we rocked the house.
The rest of the weekend was focused on maximum lounging and socializing, and minimum sleep. I came home on Monday in a weird emotional state. I love it out in Brooklyn so much, and I really feel like I finally connect with an entire group of people. I've always been one of those people who gathers in an assortment of friends from all different circles to create my own. I like being in a circle for once, even if its in another state, and it makes it so hard leaving every time. Not to mention I was jet-lagged and sleep deprived. Not a good state for a gal I tell ya! At any rate, it was a wonderful 10 days and I can't wait for my next adventure!
Pictures to come when I find the time to sit and post them.
