Well... they are everywhere. We can't change that.
I was thinking about it and one thing that seemed to make sense is that (the people that are NOT okay to say shit about vs. the people that are totally okay to say shit about) the people that have gotten most shit generally (historically and just these days form society) are the ones that you can't say shit about (like women, LGBT, etc).
But why is it ok to insult those who don't belong to these groups? Why is it okay to be sexist towards men and racist towards white people? Some say that it's freedom of speech, but in that case why doesn't it go both ways?
One double standard that I most encounter is fat vs. skinny. If I was fat it would be totally rude, mean and politically incorrect to point that out, make fun of it, etc. But somehow it's totally ok to do this if I'm skinny?
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I get upset about it, mostly it's just annoying. But that's the thing! I feel good about my weight, I`m happy with it. So why do some people try to make me feel bad about myself? Because that's exactly what they are doing, they want me to feel insecure about it. Which makes it even funnier because being skinny is the one thing you can't possibly make me feel bad about.
In the end I do realize that only insecure people try to make others feel bad because they feel about themselves. People who are happy and content with themselves would much rather give you a compliment and lift you up than bring you down. Because they don't need you to feel bad for them to feel good.
And why can't we all just be nice to each other?
