Bodhidharma Day

Oct 05, 2005 00:34

Now that it is after midnight, it is now Bodhidharma Day. Since most people don't know Zen Buddhism very well let alone Bodhidharma I thought I'd put some information up for everybody.

Bodhidharma is the founder of Zen Buddhism and today is the day when Zen Buddhists around the world honour him. After I do various things I have to get done at the university, I plan to spend the rest of the day reading and meditating on his chosen sutra the Lankavatara Sutra.

The icon for this post is a cropped and scaled version of a woodblock print of Bodhidharma by Yoshitoshi in 1887.

I think that this is a good time to mention that my standard home page for my browsers is set to Daily Zen mostly to get my Zen poem/quote of the day but occasionally to read their Zen journals.
