I'm fairly heavily into Anime. What with the collecting, format changing, storing {a tetra byte is a LOT of storage room),fiddling with software to make the whole thing easier, and even watching it on occasion (how many crazy persons do you know that not only own the complete Slayers, movies included, and has actually watched them ALL in 5 consecutive sittings}. I think I'm still sane.
Miyazako Hayao is responsible for more of the Anime that I re-re-rewatch than anyone else. And I've been trying to figure out why. What is the magic that this man weaves into his creations that makes this a given. Detail of the backgrounds? Ghost in the Shell 2 matched his best if not surpassed it. Involvement with the characters? Hack//:Sign, Grave of the Fireflys, both Ghost in the Shells, and many more delved the depth of their beings as well or better.
I believed, just maybe, I figured it out last night. After errr converting Porco Rosso I watched a few more. Ok maybe old Wolves tend to get more sentimental as we age and more prone to emotional influence,BUT. EVERY ONE of Miyazakos films have *the moment* of playing on your heartstrings. Think about it a moment. Can you watch the "Trumpeter on the Roof" in Castles in the Sky without feeling something. Spirited Away had the Trolly ride and the flying return. Kiki, durn near the whole film. and so on. There is something that gets to you in all his films. The Trumpeter on the roof I've watched literally hundreds of times why? Because it makes me feel weepie good. No matter haw crappy I'm feeling, that can lift my spirits.
Anyhow. that's my 23cents worth.
Be good to yourselves
