so Ive been apartment hunting for new york. and the process kindof reminds me of dating. (i know, just hear me out) you start out with this idea of what the perfect match for you would be. you can picture what it looks like, the scenery out your window, your new neighbors, and how you would spend your time there. you search and search, freinds try to help you out but most of the time it leads to a dead end. then you finally find something you like. you REALLY like. you check it out, research it, find out what the rent is and what amenities come with the building... are you allowed to have pets, is there a doorman, what about a workout room, do they have internet access and ac? you take time to get to know everything you can because you really like this apartment and can see yourself happy there. eventually you find a few things you dont like about it, maybe they have rules about overnight guests or you have to share a kitchen. but these are things you can live with. so you decide you are ready to make a serious commitment. you have decided that the location and the amenities make the rent worth it. so you make the call to reserve the apartment. and then the broker tells you that they have no more openings for the spring semester. well, fuck. you really thought you had found the one for you, and due to circumstances you cant control, things fell through. so you start scrambling and looking everywhere you can think. you spend hours googling for 'intern housing new york city' and all variations thereof... and almost everything you find is too expensive or unfurnished or jewish or even worse, in brooklyn. then you think you find something that will work, only to be told that in order to get the contact information you have to pay a $75 fee for 90 days of using thier service. 870 a month was probably too good to be true anyway. FINALLY all your searching is rewarded with a 1 bedroom full kitchen full bath 2 blocks from your subway line just south of times square. and its affordable. and comes furnished. with a balcony. so you send in a request for more information and pray to god they still have something available. but try not to fall in love too fast or get your hopes up only to be disappointed again...
