Fall, suddenly. Summer was fairly cool around these parts, (and I am not complaining) but it picked an inconvenient weekend to break out into 90°F+ weather. Last weekend was my madrigal group's last ren faire of the summer, and I was dying in my garb on Saturday. Sunday was a little cooler, and a breeze made things bearable.
One funny moment: the moon was nearly full on Saturday, and after it rose above the trees I howled at the top of my lungs at it. Then some other campers nearby echoed the howl, and then some campers farther away; you could hear the howl travel like a wave.
Anyway, it was a good faire; we debuted two new songs, and we were mostly all right with the singing. With the madrigal season done I had to find a place to sing for the fall, and I elected to return the the Lewis & Clark Community Chorale. The group is doing an arrangement of "Jai Ho!" from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, and a mass for chorus and gamelan. Looks fun so far.
Another side benefit of faire season ending is that I get my Tuesday nights back. There's a SF/F writers' group that meets in Beaverton on Tuesdays that I've had my eye on; I'm going to check them out this week. Of course, sticking with that is contingent on me actually writing regularly, which, not so much lately. But I did submit my android story (to Strange Horizons this time.) So at least I should be able to keep racking up rejections.
September is also when the céilí season starts up, so I got some dancing in on Friday. The céilí was rather underattended; this is typical for September, but not to this extent. I hope more people start showing up.
