for my bruinfriends--community service?

Jan 16, 2006 21:01

hello my ucla pals, i'm wondering if there are any of you out there who have nothing to do wednesday nights (or know people who need things to do/love kids) and would like to tutor for watts tutorial program, a program that i'm a director for. i would really love to see you come to our orientation/training meeting if you're interested. we tutor kids from 5 housing projects in south central la and chinatown. we used to have 20 kids, but now we've expanded to 60, but we haven't had enough tutors to respond to this need. we're looking for about 20-30 new tutors, and if you are interested or have questions, don't hesitate to comment here or email me. thanks for listening to this spchiel... i'm just kind of worried because i know we're not advertising enough but we don't really know how so we're all basically trying to bring in our beloved friends :) see below for the ad i cross-posted in the ucla lj community:

Hi everyone,

Watts Tutorial Program is looking to recruit new people to tutor/mentor elementary-aged kids from housing projects in the Watts community and we pretty much exist to hang out and help the kids with homework needs along with taking them on the occasional field trip.

If it sounds like something you'd like to do, come check us out!

Watts Tutorial Orientation/Training Session
Wednesday, January 18 at 6pm
Haines Hall 118

The committment is one night a week, Wednesdays from 5-8, during weeks 3-10 and we tutor on-campus in Haines. To become a member, you just need to need to fill out a short application (handed out at the meeting or you can request one through email) and attend this meeting.

Comment or shoot wattstutorialprogram@yahoo.com (attn: tiffany) an email if you have any questions or want more information!
