So I was thinking about Roman Coppola, and how his debut film CQ was so great. Not that it was pure entertainment, it was just raw atmospheric tranquility. I barely get mezmorized, but CQ did it to me. It was eye candy while waiting for those unabridged witty lines of dialogue.
I guess the whole thing is a love fest dedicated to that 60s campy market of feminine heroines. You know, the whole Danger! Diabolik! and Barbarella phenom. Really over glorified action movies with strong women shooting angry male antagonist. I don't know, the 60s were kind of cool, the music with those cheesy sci-fi soundtracks, yeah those are real cool. Jane Fonda was kind of like pop cultures first real slut, behind Marilyn Monroe.
If anyone is interested, David Holzman's Diary is pretty funny. It's a documentary about this loser, who tries to make a film, but can't. Instead he shoots himself talking about wanting to, and films his girlfriend while she gets ready for work. Until one day she just leaves him, on camera no less. Pretty pathetic, humiliating and humorous. Anyway, it was made in 68...so the whole grainy thing is appealing to me.
I think I'm going to rent Goodbye Lenin! today, there is just something more emotionally daring about foreign films lately. Everything American filmwise except Wes Anderson has bothered me, quite frankly, as of recently.
I have to get back to class, <3 to Ashley.
