Dom read the prompt carefully. Experiences, eh? He’s had enough of those to write several books. He’d always made it a point to go out and do things, simply because he could do them. His parents and Matt had never really done anything. Ever since they’d moved to Manchester, they really hadn’t left the country. Dom, on the other hand, had been to New Zealand for more than three years of his life.
New Zealand. Where it all began. Dom honestly couldn’t imagine his life sans his time there. It had been the greatest experience of his life, all of it. But Billy especially….he was so incredibly glad that Bill had been cast as the Pippin to his Merry. Without that happening, he never would have met his best mate. More to the point, he would have never met the man he’s fallen in love with.
Being in love was tricky for Dom, especially when the person he was in love with happened to be Billy. He knew that being gay wasn’t a very widely accepted thing, but he didn’t care. He loved Bill, and Bill…well, he was pretty sure that Billy loved him, even if he hadn’t exactly said it. He showed it in everything he did for Dom, and when Dom was around.
Dom could honestly say that he loved everything about Billy. His personality, his looks, his voice, all of it was better than he ever could have hoped for in the perfect man. And they complimented each other so well, everyone said so. Dom knew where they got that idea from. When they did promotions for Rings, it was obvious that they just clicked. Audiences saw that from the start. But what they didn’t know is just how close Dom and Billy had become in New Zealand.
Billy and Dom had talked about what could have happened had they never met. If both of them hadn’t decided to be Merry and Pippin. They never would have met. They would have never become best mates, and they never would have started their relationship. They were both men of the world, as it were. Billy being from Glasgow and Dom being born in Berlin and raised in Manchester, that is. They’d traveled to New Zealand, some unknown country, to star in a movie that could have been a total flop.
Although, thought Dom, would it really have been all bad even if the Lord of the Rings series had been awful? He’d still have met Billy, and they’d still have gotten together. The movies making so much money and generating so much publicity and fame for them was just a bonus, the way he saw it.
Deciding that he should be answering the prompt, he turned back to the computer screen and began to type….
"My name is Dominic Monaghan, and, while my life by birth may have started on December 8th, 1976, my life really began in New Zealand about three years ago. My true life began, and will end with, a man named Billy Boyd....."
