I'm sorry. :((((((((((( GOD WHY I AM SUCH A FAILURE, it's like I go into a fandom being like I AM GOING TO WRITE NICE STORIES WITH PUPPIES AND RAINBOWS and then inevitably I become a cesspool of angst and frustration.

It is a horrible catch-22! Aja and I talked about how we felt about Slytherins in general, and I realized the way I felt about them doomed them to a fate of being evil forever, and not evil because they have no other choice, but rather because they choose becasue they think they have no other choice, which is a small difference but still a difference. :/

There is an unspoken custom that Headmasters of Hogwarts are chosen from different houses in turns, to encourage "a spectrum of views" and discourage "unwanted favoritism". After Dumbledore's death, it should be a Slytherin's turn.

Which is why in 1998, the Hogwarts Board of Governors appoints Minerva McGonagall as Headmistress.

The crazy thing is that I really do buy Rowling's narrative of Tom Riddle! But I totally agree, it's a far more interesting world to write in if Riddle was more of a conglomeration of hate and built in prejudice that just formed into a single evil person. And augh, I'm listening to the last book again, and the part where Muriel and Dodge talk about Ariana and Squibs and I'm just like, MY GOD, WIZARDING COMMUNITY, CAN WE BE MORE CLOSE-MINDED AND EXCLUSIVE.

Which all means god, I'm so glad you actually liked this, because you're one of the people I was thinking about as I wrote it. ♥

Rhod was talking about how she just saw the white peacocks in these wooden cages, being taken away to the butchers, and I couldn't bear actually writing them, but I'm sure nothing good happened to them. :(((((
