Do you feel like chicken tonight?

I had a funny thought today as I read an article in the AJC urging people to get their flu vaccinations early and I was reminded of my days as a medic in the Army.

Between October and December we had to give flu vaccinations as an inhalant (the live virus) to the entire base. We had to ask people if they were allergic to eggs which seemed odd so I did a little research. As it turns out flu vaccinations come along in an interesting way. A chicken’s eggshell is cracked and the flu virus is injected into the fluid surrounding the embryo then the egg is resealed so the embryo can incubate and become infected. Once the virus dominates the embryo it is harvested and voilá we have a flu vaccine!

In essences you are snorting rotten chicken fetus. Just thought I’d share.
