I have been looking into new cars recently, and came across a breed of cars unlike any other. With gas prices always on the up rise and a flare of uncertainty pertaining to the price of gas in the future, I have been looking into hybrid automobiles as a possible way out of the gas-guzzling craze Americans seem to be caught in. I researched two models, the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius. The first thing I noticed about the Honda was how similar it was to a normal car. With cars such as the Toyota Insight on the market, I was surprised to discover subtle features on such an advanced car. Hybrid models use the latest technology and combine that with a regular combustible engine to give you the ‘hybrid’ label. The battery in the car does not need to be plugged in to recharge. As if by magic, this sophisticated car actually recharges itself while you slow down and brake. If stationary for a few moments, as most of us are in rush-hour traffic, the car is smart enough to shut down the battery to conserve the energy, and then simultaneously start back up when you pick up speed. Another perk of these cars, besides the obvious gas- and therefore money-saving benefit, is the fact that incentives are being provided for purchasers in the form of a tax break. The prices for hybrids may seem a little steep with both cars fashioning a tag of near $20,000, but with the bonus of a tax break, it may relieve that initial financial burden. Including the added personal benefit that every time I drive to work I know I just relieved the environment of a little bit of stress by cutting my emissions down by 40% makes either a Prius or a Civic Hybrid a good choice for my next automobile.
