Just trying to get a handle on this beautifully broken relationship.
--
Loki is like the converse/the mirror of Thor. Thor, who is simple and open and caring and loud and boisterous and reckless and wears his heart on his sleeve, as opposed to Loki, who isn't. And Loki is and will always be the much more complex character because his actions contradict his words. He wears a mask, and therefore any actor who plays him will not only have to portray his character but all the masks that he hides behind, fights behind.
And Loki despises Thor, despises the way Thor still calls him "brother" because he isn't, and it is simply a remnant, a tie to his past that he cannot destroy or get away from, but wishes to desperately. He has tried so hard to be good and he has failed and so therefore decided to live up to other's expectations of him because he is tired or trying to show them they are wrong. So he tries to rid himself of all sentiment of Asgard but then Thor is there calling him brother, and he cannot. And Thor represents good things to him, is making it so much harder for him to just be evil, he can't even be evil and nor can he be good what is left.
And to let Thor call him brother is to mean that he accepts the fact and he does not, he will not be in denial of what his true nature is, he will not live a lie. He controls the lies around him.
