Have you ever been hit by the realization that things that would in the past have seemed beautiful now affect you in more negative ways? As over time you accumulate more depressing memories, they get incorporated into the way you react to things you now experience for the first time.
It's example time.
For instance, maybe some cynical and exceedingly vague indie lyric will seem simply tragic and unpleasant instead of giving you that wry enjoyment. Maybe this is only due to the way you relate specifics from your life to what the singer probably doesn't even mean to say. The cerebral appreciation is still there, but the emotional reaction is so much more keyed into the way your inner masochist chooses to associate your bad experiences with things you would otherwise have enjoyed in, like a cathartic way.
And not because you are unhappy or depressed?
Ever had that?
And by you i mean me.
