LA alley
Don slowed down as he approached the corner of the alley where he saw the two suspects go. They were both armed and dangerous. Even without their weapons, the body-builders could tear him apart if he wasn’t careful.
‘Oh shit!’ There was somebody in the alley with them. A female by the sound of it. ‘Damn!’ All he could do was hope that they didn’t want to risk getting shot. He turned the corner and yelled, “Freeze! FBI!”
He struggled to see down the unlit path, but it was just too full of shadows. As he got a little closer, he heard the woman scolding the pair.
“You guys are sooo lucky that FBI guy is here or I’d beat you with each other’s kneecaps! Try to grab me!” she snarled, which was followed by another thunking sound.
The distance was close enough now that he could make out one person standing and two lumps on the ground.
“My hands are going to turn on my flashlight necklace, then they are going up in the air, FBI dude!” the woman warned him.
Preparing himself for the change in lighting did nothing to prepare him for the vision in front of him. She was probably about half a foot shorter than him; slender but not anorexic; probably about a decade younger than him - at least - but he was in love anyway. Not that he could do anything about it, but she was like sugar water to his hummingbird. Or something less chick-flickish.
“I’m hoping these were bad guys you were chasing and not teammates that I knocked out,” she said/asked hopefully.
Don dragged his eyes away from her to look at his suspects, clearly unconscious on the ground. He pulled out his radio and called in his location with a request for backup and an ambulance. Turning back to the blonde, he asked, “Can you tell me what happened, miss?”
“I was walking by the alley when these gorillas grabbed me and dragged me in here. Look at this!” she demanded, pointing to her torn shirt. “They ruined my favorite shirt! Well, to be fair, right now I only have like five of them since we got out of Sunnydale with like a backpack’s worth each, but still! I really liked this one! Then they said something about using me and I lost my temper. It could have been that they wanted to use me as a hostage, but you know, being a girl, I thought something else and can I just say eww? So I expressed my disapproval of their plans until you arrived to protect them.”
He fought the insane urge to laugh at the idea he was protecting the criminals…especially from somebody…who really shouldn’t have been able to take them down… “Can you explain how you managed that?” he inquired, trying to keep the suspicion out of his voice.
It must not have worked all that well, because she responded with a grin, “I’m a black belt in more martial arts than you probably have heard of, so I know all about using leverage and a person’s mass against them. I’d offer to show you, but don’t really feel like getting shot by your backup when they arrive.”
Pretty (gorgeous), able to take care of herself and snarky? She was the hat-trick of dating ideals for a woman. Maybe he could arrange to run into her after the case was over?
A/N: So this isn’t part of my origin series (at least not right now), but I saw the challenge and couldn’t resist.
