Summary: Rupert had known it would only be a matter of time before suspicions began to surface.

Rupert had known it would only be a matter of time before suspicions began to surface. He had enjoyed several lovely Anita Blake free days, where he had learned a great deal about the coming full moon, before she came knocking on Stephen's door - armed with any number of weapons and a couple of wereleopards.

He half expected his wolf to react to Anita differently this time, however, he felt the same wave of revulsion at her presence he did the second time he met her.

"How are you doing, Rupert?" Anita asked as she sat on the couch, while both Gregory and Stephen rubbed themselves up against her.

Rupert didn't care what anyone said was normal behavior. He was immensely grateful he didn't feel the need to immasculate himself in such a manner. "I'm well, thank you, and yourself?" he replied, meeting her eyes.

He sighed the moment they made eye contact because his beast instantly rose to the fore and refused to abate.

It seemed vitally important, as it had when he first met Sylvia's eyes, that he not break eye contact first.

"I received an interesting call from Dectictive Zerbrowski," Anita began, going straight to the issue at hand. "He said there's a bit of a problem with your identification. There's no record of a Rupert Giles from England ever entering America. Why did you give him a fake name?"

"I didn't," he replied, nonplussed. He had thought a great deal about how he would handle this very situation over the last couple of days and, as much as he loathed to, he believed that the best course of action would be to tell the truth. For one, any fabrication would be instantly detected by his fellow werewolves and, secondly, while he didn't like Anita, she was incredibly powerful and possibly had contacts that could help him find a way home.

That being said, he had no intention of becoming a tool to her Master and the Master of his Ulfric.

"You didn't?" she repeated, clearly annoyed. "Look, Rupert, or whoever you are, you didn't have to lie to the police, not unless you have something to hide."

"Oh, I have a great deal to hide, but I assure you Ms Blake, that I did not lie about my name."

"He didn't," Sylvia confirmed. "He's not lying."

"He has to be," Anita argued. "We checked. Twice. There's no record of a Rupert Giles coming to America."

"There wouldn't be. I didn't exactly come to St Louis by traditional means."

"Then how did you come here?"

"You won't believe me," he warned Anita, "and the lycanthropes won't want to believe me."

"Try me."

"Very well. I'm the head of an international organisation which hunts supernatural creatures and, unfortunately, I killed a demon without realising it had a mate and, as a result, the mate of the demon I killed hunted me down and banished me from my own dimension and sent me to this one."

Anita gaped at him in disbelief, while the lycanthropes in the room stared at him in shock.

"I did try to warn you."
