Rick was great, and in far more ways than just his sexual technique. He answered all the questions she could think of, and as a detective there were quite a few, even giving a few of his own questions, that she hadn't thought of, answers.

Despite that though, and despite how much she loved him, Kate needed perspective. She needed to talk to someone who hadn't dropped the mother of all paradigm shifts on her head, someone she'd trusted for years and who never hid something as big as being Fae from her. She needed to talk to Lanie.

So now here she is, dropping by Lanie's very nice apartment unannounced for the first time in a while. She'd fallen out of the habit when Espo and her ebony skinned friend had started dating for fear of running into the latin detective in the buff. She knew he wasn't there tonight however because he was currently on paperwork detail after making the mistake of betting against Rick at a game of pool in the Old Haunt.

Kate unlocked her friend's door with the key she'd been given and stepped inside, only to stop as she found Lanie, said best friend who would never ever keep something the magnitude of being Fae a secret, with a circle of fire hovering in the air around her as her friend meditated. At least, that's what it looked like, Kate felt it was understandable to be unsure seeing as she had just found out that her friend was very much capable of hiding something that big from her. "Lanie?!"

Lanie's eyes snapped open and the fire disappeared, she stared helplessly at Kate for what felt like an eternity to both of them. "Kate! What are you doing here?! I thought you were spending time with writer-boy?"

Kate snapped out of her own shock and shot Lanie a look of confusion and frustration, "What am I doing here? I came here to talk to you about something that I wasn't sure you'd take very well. Only to find out, surprise though it is to me, you're one of the things I wanted to talk about!"

Lanie winced, her apologetic face calming Kate. Her friend had really not wanted to hide this from her, "I'm sorry Kate. I really am. I never told you because my family... well, you know how much I love to spend time as far from them as possible right? Well one of the reasons is my family has a rule about not telling any humans about ourselves unless we're going to marry them, which is in and of itself an excommunicatable offense to my family and as much as I avoid them..."

Kate smiled, moving over to her friend and wrapped her arms around her, "They're still your family. It's ok Lanie, really."

Lanie hugged Kate back and sagged, "God Katie... I'm so sorry. I'm guessing writer-boy told you he's half-seniatta then?"

"And half-siren," Kate nodded, "Well, he's not the one that told me. It was a friend of his in L.A. We went to this karaoke bar-"

"Oh! You met Lorne! Did you sing for him? Girl, tell me you sang on his stage," Lanie pressed, eyes lighting up in recognition when a karaoke bar in L.A. was mentioned.

"We both did. When we left the stage he handed Castle a card, told him to call them and ask for the CSO with a Code May. After Castle left to the bathroom to call he told me what was going on. For half a minute I panicked, thinking I was going to be eaten alive by the demons in the bar or something, before I remembered Rick took me there and there's no way he'd take me anywhere he saw as dangerous to me," Kate responded with a smile, wincing inwardly when Rick came out of her mouth instead of Castle. She knew instantly that there was no way Lanie would miss the slip either.

Sure enough, a catlike grin lit up Lanie's face, "Rick? Oh Girl, you've got to tell me the story behind that later, continue!"

Groaning Kate glared at her but did as ordered, "Anyway, Rick came back out of the bathroom with this... tiny blonde in tow. She was probably 5'5" or 5'6" but that was in some pretty high heels. She talks with Lorne for a moment about an apocalypse Lorne saw me connected to, I asked what they were gonna do about the guy and Castle told me that the girl, Buffy if you can believe it, was going to have to kill the guy responsible. Lanie... the guy responsible was Him, the guy who ordered my mom's killing. I asked her to make sure whoever killed him got him a message from me before he died. She told me she'd do it personally."

Lanie's state of utter gobbsmackedness only rose as Kate continued. Kate had met her, the Queen Slayer, because Lorne had seen something relating to an upcoming apocalypse season in her friend when she sang for him. Then the Queen Slayer tells Kate Beckett, her best friend, that she would personally deliver a message, undoubtedly some kind of indication of who led them to him, to the man before he was killed. "Sweety... that girl is the single most dangerous person on the face of this planet."

Kate nodded, Rick had said something similar, "Rick told me, we went out to a nice public restaurant so we could avoid ripping each other's clothes off and I asked him as many questions as I could think of. She came up, now I know."

The pair of friends continued talking for hours, Kate even wanting to see Lanie's fire abilities again, as Kate told her pyromancer friend everything she could think of about how Rick had helped her, and the message ball, and even their first night together. When they finished Kate had her much needed perspective and Lanie was relieved to not need to hide herself from her friend anymore.
