Summary: Xander cancels a movie night and Clark gets concerned.
Warnings: none
Timeline/Setting: post season seven of Buffy and before Lois knows that Clark is Superman.
Author's notes(if any): I have not seen any of the Buffy season 8 comics.
*bzzt*
Clark picked up his vibrating cell phone from where he set it on Lois’s desk. Cancel tonight sorry
“Who was that?” Lois asked seeing Clark’s smiling face fall as he read the phone display.
“I was supposed to watch a couple of movies tonight with a friend but they cancelled. He was looking forward to tonight and sometimes with his job he has to cancel but not like this.” Clark said not seeing Lois’s face flicker when Clark referred to his plans for the evening was a he.
“Maybe you could go by after work and check on them.” Lois said hoping who ever they were was fine. She knew it was selfish to want Clark all to herself but a person needed friends.
After work Clark zipped through his apartment heading right to his roof access. Going to check on Xander was a little beyond what Lois thought since he lived in Cleveland but it was no trouble for Clark.
Unlocking the skylight he and Xander had installed Clark let his self in to Xander’s apartment. Hearing someone sleeping Clark silently drifted into the bedroom. Xander with a fever, pile of dirty tissues, and a tipped over bottle of aspirin. In the kitchen was a few cans of chicken noodle soup, one open half eaten with a spoon in it.
Bundling up Xander in his blanket Clark picked up his passenger and left though the skylight.
Sixteen hours later Xander opened his eyes and didn’t recognize the room he was in. After a couple minutes of looking around he started to cough. It looked like a bedroom and Martha Kent was coming through the door.
“Martha.” Xander’s greeting came out as a croak.
“Hi Kiddo. How are you feeling?” Martha asked resting her hand on his forehead.
“Confused.”
“Clark brought you here last night, you’ve had a high fever and coughing.” Martha explained as she helped Xander to sit up.
“Thanks Martha. I’m sorry if I ruined any plans last night.” Xander said tugging a blanket around his shoulders.
“I’m glad I could help, and if you’re up to it you can join in my birthday party later.” Martha said pulling open Clark’s dresser drawers and picking out a shirt and pajama pants for Xander.
That evening after Superman dropped her off and left to get Clark Lois stepped into the Kent farm house and found Martha handing a bowl of soup to a man sitting on the sofa. Clark had not mentioned anything about there being anyone other than his folks there. As Martha returned to the kitchen Lois took off her jacket moving to stand in front of the guy.
“Hello. Who are you?”
Holding the steaming bowl near his face Xander said, “Xander. Friend of Clark’s.”
“Do you live in Smallville?”
“Cleveland. I sent Clark a message to cancel our movie night and next thing I know I’m waking up to Martha with a thermometer.” Xander said quickly loosing his voice to chest rattling coughs.
“Ok Xander. I’ve got you.” Clark said one arm around Xander with his other hand giving the bowl of soup to Lois.
A few minutes after the coughing stopped Xander hoarsely said, “Movie night later. Sleep now. Thanks Clark.”
Sleep quick to claim Xander Clark carefully shifted Xander to lay on the sofa and tuck him in with a soft quilt.
“Did he come for your birthday Martha?” Lois asked as Martha approached with a thermometer and the phone.
“No Superman dropped him off.” Martha said the same way she would have said Jonathan brought in the mail.
“Huh? Wait, what?” A bit confused Lois wasn’t sure what questions to ask for more information.
