Faith leaned back in her chair and took a sip of her classic Bud. Not her favorite beer, but at least it tasted the same as at home.

She watched the crowd gather and a smirk appeared on her full lips when she spotted James Kirk walk into the bar. It almost sounded like the beginning of a lame joke - Jim Kirk walked into a bar...

With all the space cadets in the place tonight, she knew that something would happen. "Trouble's a-brewin" she whispered, her mind bringing up Willow's face before she pushed the thought away.

She attempted to focus back on the soon-to be chaotic bar fight, but couldn't completely escape the thoughts of her past. A few years after Sunnydale fell, she died, activating the next slayer. Robin had been doing CPR on her though and when the ambulance showed up with the shocker-things, they got her heart going again.

With three called slayers and all the minis, it became too much for the balance and Faith had her first face-to-face with the Powers That Be's messenger. Word came down from on-high that she and Buffy had to go. The PTB had found universes for them that were unstable enough that they wouldn't affect the balance.

She had no idea where Buffy ended up, but she'd ended up here in the future on a ship of all things. The PTB had at least given her some basic info on this place, so she wasn't completely lost.

Slaying in this world proved easier and harder than in the previous one - not all demons set off her senses and some aliens did set them off. Still, she'd adjusted the best she could.

Then last night she had a slayer dream. She never had them as often as Buffy, but she'd had a few and knew what they were. That dream led her to this little backwater town. She knew something critical would happen during the brawl here and she needed to make sure Kirk ended up on the shuttle to Starfleet tomorrow. And if she had to knock boots with the man to make sure that happened, well it wouldn't be that much of a hardship.

Just like in her dream, the fight started. She smiled as she finished off her beer. There were a few species here that could take a punch or two from a slayer, so she jumped right in and confronted them.

Finally able to stretch her fighting muscles, she almost missed the fist headed her way when a shrill whistle sounded.

Dodging the fist, she stepped away from her opponent and looked over, spotting the Starfleet guy from her dream.

Weaving her way through broken tables and unconscious bodies, she got close to Kirk and waited.

She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do to get him on that shuttle, but she would do it. What she didn't expect was the Starfleet guy's eyes to land on her and more or less command her to stay where she was.

Twenty minutes later, Faith found herself leaning against the bar wondering if she should be horrified or bemused. Somehow Pike had gotten her to agree to sign up for Starfleet if Kirk did.

While she was not soldier material, she knew Kirk had to sign up, so she'd go along as far as she could.

After all, the PTB couldn't really mean to have a slayer in Starfleet, could they?
