Scarier Than A Shovel

Stephanie could feel the beat thrumming through her bones as she sat scanning the dance floor, smiling at the sight of the Merry Men having fun. Coming here had even been their idea. In truth, she was a little excited to meet some of their significant others.
Taking a sip of her drink, she looked over at Hal. "Is your girl going to show up?" Stephanie asked. There had been much speculation about Hal's new lady.
A smile and the slight blush that covered Hal's cheeks. "She'll be here," he assured. "She just had something to take care of first."
Before Stephanie could respond, Hal's smile broadened and he straightened up.
"There she is."
Stephanie watched as Hal cut through the crowd, quite a feat considering the number of men flocking to the lady entering. Taking one look at the leather-clad brunette, Stephanie could only think "dangerous". In fact, Hal's lady made Jeanne Ellen look as scary as a Kindergarten teacher.
A shiver ran down her spine as the brunette's eyes met hers. She could see the laughter in them as well as something dark in their depths, something she'd only really seen in Ranger's eyes when he was angry.
A small measure of relief filled her as the woman's eyes turned to Hal who she greeted with a kiss that left Stephanie, and many of the other women who witnessed it, flushed and fanning themselves.
Hal finally broke the kiss and wrapped an arm around the woman's shoulders as he directed her toward Stephanie.
"Steph, this is my lady, Faith. Faith, this is my friend, Stephanie."
"Hey," Faith greeted.
Stephanie took a quick peek at Hal and easily read the love an happiness in his eyes. Meeting Faith's eyes, she nodded. "Nice to meet you."
"Hey, Stud, will you get me something to drink?" Faith asked, running a hand down Hal's chest.
"Anything in particular?"
A smoldering smile appeared on the young woman's face. "Yes, but not here." She laughed at the blush that covered Hal's face and crept down his neck. "Surprise me."
Hal nodded, placed a quick kiss on her lips and headed off to the bar.
Faith watched Hal walk away until he was swallowed by the crowd. Turning to Stephanie she commanded, "Out with it."
Stephanie's eyebrows rose.
"Your shovel speech?" Faith prompted. "You know where you threaten me, if I hurt my boy-toy you'll beat me to death with a shovel and then use it to bury me type thing."
Stephanie opened her mouth, paused, closed it and sighed. "I doubt anything I can say or do would be something you'd find threat..." her voice trailed off as a thought occurred to her and an evil smile curved her lips. "If you hurt Hal, I'll not only make you spend a day with me skip-chasing an shopping, I'll make you eat dinner at my parent's house and have a cooking lesson with my mother."
Faith's eyebrows drew down in puzzlement. Really, that didn't sound so bad. Dinner with a family? Cooking lessons? Skip-chasing? "You really need to work on your threats," Faith replied with a shrug.
"What threats?" Hal asked, setting a glass in front of her. At the raised eyebrow, he shrugged and said "Bailey's."
Faith nodded her approval and rewarded him with a kiss. "SOP, babe. When you meet the friends and family of the S. O., they do the threat thing - you hurt him/her we'll do something to make sure your life's miserable or you're dead."
Hal just smiled and nodded in understanding. "And Steph threatened you?"
"I told her if she hurt you, I'd take her bounty hunting and shopping with me and then force her to have dinner with my family and a cooking lesson with my mother."
Faith grew concerned as Hal's eyes grew wide and all color drained from his face.
"Hal, baby, you OK?" Faith asked, reaching out and placing a concerned hand on his arm.
Hal seemed to shake off his concern and reached out to wrap Faith in his arms. "That's beyond cruel, Steph."
Stephanie just shrugged. What could she say? it was her life.
End.
