Summary: No escape! But Missy has a plan.
Missy shook the small device in her hand, and stared at it. And shook it again. "Guess we do this the hard way." She smirked and Joyce's confused look. "It wouldn't be a challenge if it was easy, would it, pet."
"What did she do?" Joyce asked.
"Interesting," Missy said, watching Isis pacing around the room. "It appears your new friend can sense the time currents in the room. She must be something other than an ape descendant."
"Time currents?" Joyce murmured, tilting her head.
"It's not an ape sense," Missy said. "You'd have to change, pointy ears and all first."
"I can't," Joyce said. "Not yet. Not without help."
"Then why are you here?" Missy said, raising an eyebrow. She held out her small device and started circling the room, humming an unrecognizable tune.
"What's going on?" Joyce said, hurrying to catch up with Isis as she paced.
"She seems to have stopped time," Isis said, nodding at Mary Poppins, who was sitting in her throne, staring off into the distance. "Or stopped time around us? Not sure how she did it."
"If she's one of those Time Ladies, maybe it's just something she can do?" Joyce said. "Though, if Missy is one also, why didn't she stop it?"
"Smart question, for a pet," Missy said, appearing on the other side of Isis, as if she'd been there for a while. "It's keyed to her. This is a type of TARDIS I don't recognize, but they all operate on the same principles. It'll take a little bit of time."
"What's a TARDIS?" Joyce said.
"This!" Missy said, waving her arms and turning in a wide circle. "It's not like that old Type 40 you've been rattling around in, but something much more sophisticated. It could be very useful."
"I don't remember any Type-40 thing," Joyce said, frustrated.
"Which is certainly curious," Missy said. "But I've left my tools elsewhere, and she probably wouldn't appreciate it if I broke your brain examining it."
"No," Isis said, giving Missy a look. "Memory problems can wait until we're out of here. You seem to be familiar with this kind of place. How do we get out?"
"Unfortunately, killing her would just make things worse," Missy said. "It would lock us in here in a rather permanent fashion. We'll just have to wait to see if her minion returns."
"Bert? The chimney sweep?" Joyce said. "How would that help?"
"Is that what he is?" Missy said, scrunching her nose up. "If he can get in here past the time lock, that will tell us, I mean me," she smirked, "how to break the lock. And then she can be eliminated. There isn't room in this universe for more than one bonkers Time Lady."
"What kind of time manipulation needs to be done to break this lock?" Isis said.
"It isn't going to let you just stop and start time," Missy said. "It's a little more sophisticated than that. It seems to be synced to the Time Vortex, though if you want to melt your brain go ahead and try and break it."
"Why have her mummies stopped moving?" Joyce said. "Did she turn them off?"
"Excellent," Missy said, looking down at her small device. "She's really not much of a challenge. Instead of improving them, she used the Osirian controls for them. Which I now control."
"What are you going to do with them?" Joyce asked.
"They'll be useful, I'm sure," Missy said.
"It's one less thing to worry about," Isis said. "Since I assume we are all on the same side here."
"Old Mary didn't want to negotiate," Missy said, shrugging. "Her loss."
"If she's a real ghost, she's stuck. They aren't very flexible," Joyce said.
Missy sighed. Pointing her device at Mary, she tapped on it. "Not exactly a ghost," she said, "though to your limited mind it doesn't really matter."
"So, normal ghost busting tricks won't work on her or Bert?" Joyce said. "That must be why Spectral Investigations was having problems. They aren't equipped for this."
"They did have a few interesting tricks up their sleeves," Missy said. "But nothing that would work against a Time Lord spirit."
"What would work?" Joyce said. "Your thing?"
"This?" Missy held up her device. "With a few adjustments, possibly." Reaching into a pocket she took out a slim device, that looked like a metallic pencil.
