Two weeks after arriving in the no-longer Lost City of Atlantis, and Buffy Summers had settled into a routine.

She had literally been told 10 hours before the Daedalus was set to leave that she would be going with them instead of leaving for college as she had planned. Certain people with more ambition than common sense and empathy had decided to stick their noses where they didn't belong. Specifically, they had wanted to have Buffy transferred to one of their labs for 'further testing' for an undetermined amount of time to see how she was different from people in this reality.

General Jack O'Neill, the current head of Stargate Command, had taken offense to that and decided she needed to move a little further than a dorm room in another state to be safe. Therefore, she and all of her belongings had been beamed onto the intergalactic ship and sent on their way.

Jack had ordered Elizabeth to set up classes for her in Atlantis so she could take the exams on Earth later. With all the genius scientists it shouldn't be that hard to find a small group of people willing to be her teachers. It turned out that it was actually pretty easy. There were quite a few who didn't mind a break in their usual work to go back and teach her what they considered to be the basics, especially when Buffy had volunteered to teach them self-defense and combat skills. Not that all of them took her up on that for various reasons.

It had turned out that most of them had been denied going off-world in Pegasus, or to join a team, due to their lack of fighting skills if something was to happen. Either way, she ended up taking her classes in whichever lab her teacher was in, so their work wouldn't be disturbed more than necessary.

A few people had volunteered their services, including Dr. Carson Beckett, who insisted that he could teach her a lot about the medical field and the human body. She took him up on it since it was unlikely that she would ever get a chance like that again. A few of the linguists who knew she had been working with Daniel, offered to help her with various languages, including Goa'uld and Alterran.

Teyla had proven herself to be a very graceful warrior, she was also very patient. The two of them had agreed to teach each other their fighting styles. Amusingly, Sheppard and McKay had come across them in the mess hall discussing their training and hurriedly moved to another table further away. Neither of them had done anything to conceal their laughter at the two men's unsubtle retreat.

Buffy looked across the table at the other woman, "We should set up a training schedule for those two. I'm sure Sheppard is well-trained in military fighting, but you can't rely on a specific style all the time. It makes you predictable and much easier to defeat. And McKay is hopeless. Any training is better than the panicking I'm sure he's doing now."

"Dr. McKay has other skills he is quite adept at."

"I know, he thinks he's the smartest person in two galaxies. He's not, and even if he was he can't use his brain to fight his way out of trouble. Because sooner or later there's going to be an incident where there won't be anyone to save him, and no technology so he can save himself."

"I agree, but I have attempted to convince him it is an important part of going through the Stargate, but he is resistant. I do not wish to force him as I do not believe such measures would be effective."

Buffy considered the problem. Truthfully, Dr. Rodney McKay wasn't her problem, he was Sheppard's. BUT, and it was a big but, McKay was right about one thing; they needed his brain to keep everything in the City operational in the best way possible, and he really was the best person for that job. That meant his life and health were important to her and everyone living in the City.

Teyla gave her a considering look before speaking, "Perhaps Dr. Weir may be of assistance. She is the civilian leader of Atlantis. It is in her power to mandate basic training for all personnel. I assume she could make it a requirement that all non-military personnel do this and then keep training regularly."

Buffy smiled. "That's an excellent idea, especially since we can use the recent siege as a valid reason for why it's so important." They got to brainstorming. After all, if they were going to present this to Elizabeth they needed to actually have something to back up their request.

Meanwhile, Sheppard and McKay were looking increasingly nervous about her and Teyla's conversation. It caused Buffy to smile in their direction for no other reason than because she knew it would make them turn back to their food quickly, and attempt a very bad imitation of looking absorbed in their meal.

Not that it mattered, they were close enough for her to hear everything they said if she concentrated on them. She tried not to do it to anyone, but sometimes it just happened. A loud person like McKay was pretty much a magnet for anyone who wanted to eavesdrop.

Once their conversation wrapped up they left the mess hall and went their separate ways. It was Saturday, so there was no school for her, which meant she had the day to herself. Sitting around doing nothing wasn't something she was interested in doing though, so she had volunteered to join a group that was looking closer into the City herself.

Teams had gone through the entire City in the first year, but it had only been to check if there was anything dangerous laying around, and to check for damages the City might've occurred during her 10,000-year hibernation. Granted, so far it had only been a group of people walking from room to room to check for technology laying around, or something else interesting, but at least she was moving.

So that was pretty much how she spent her days, classes with the scientists, training the scientists, and training with the military during the day, exploring the City on Saturdays, and Sundays were for relaxing. It was unlikely to last, but it was a new routine.

It was strangely normal for a mythical city in another galaxy, but she wasn't going to complain.
