Summary: For something a little lighter, Faith and the Lokis discover Dr. Strange's magically refilling beer mugs.
“You’re telling me there thousands of different beers just in this country,” Kid Loki asked in disbelief as he took a sip from his mug, scrutinizing Faith intently, then shaking his head. “I want to say you’re lying, but as the God of Mischief, I almost always know when people are lying to me.”
Faith shrugged, taking a long pull of her own beer. “Hey, you are free to travel all over the US and see for yourself. People really like their booze, especially in beer form.”
With her experience when it came to Buffy and emotions, Faith had wisely decided it was her time to hightail it away from the upcoming breakdowns and find a place to hunker down until it all blew over. Turns out, she found a nifty table that provided magically refilling beer mugs.
Which was pretty much the best.
In short while, the Lokis showed up in her little spot, and soon enough, Faith found herself explaining the drinking life in this world. Well, mostly to Kid Loki.
Alligator Loki weirded her out a bit.
“So, the God of Mischief,” she asked, slouching down in her chair with her feet crossed over the ankle on the table, “What exactly does that do?”
At that, Alligator Loki gave a roar, and Kid Loki looked over to him, contemplatively, and said, “Yeah, but there’s more than just that.”
“See,” Kid Loki said, turning to Faith, “Part of it is being a trickster, pulling pranks on other gods, other allies, making sure no one is completely sure-footed. A bigger part, one that many tend to forget, is that a large part of mischief is above breaking the rules, going against what society orders. And that encompasses a lot of of what I helped with, before being sent to the Void.”
“Huh,” Faith said, sipping her beer. “Bet that could get busy.”
“You have no idea,” he drawled.
As both of them drank, Faith watched out of the corner of her eye as Alligator Loki stepped closer to her, one of his eyes trained on her. Putting his glass down, Kid Loki said, “He doesn't like you very much.”
“I once wrestled an alligator into submission,” she said, as if that explained everything.
Kid Loki laughed but shook his head. “Nah, that’s not it. He always has a hard time warming up to people too similar to us. We walk in both the shadow and the light, as all tricksters must. Sometimes, we help people on the light side, sometime those not. Its our inherent nature. You have that, to extent, more than the ones you traveled with. Doesn’t make you bad, or evil; just that your path doesn’t require staying on one side or the other.”
Faith straightened at that, dropping her feet from the table, eyeing them both intently. Her defenses went up as she said harshly, “You gonna make something of it?”
Her threats did nothing to phase the Lokis; instead, they almost seemed to approve. “Why would we? I told you. God of Mischief. If circumstances were different, we’d probably show up to help you now and again.”
“Oh,” Faith said, settling back into her seat, contemplating that. “So. Do you know any good drinking games?”
