Summary: In which Buffy and the Lokis make their escape.
They were in the Tower when they heard Alioth begin to stir.
Alligator Loki was the first to notice, his head lifting and tilting away from them and towards the sound. Buffy was next, slowly placing her plate of food on a nearby table as she stood up, her own head tilted slightly as she frowned at the sound. Watching them carefully, Kid Loki did not stand, but kept a keen eye on them, to prepare for their next course of action.
“New arrival,” Buffy said absently, frowning slightly as she paused in her speech. Alligator Loki growled and she nodded absently. “Plural. New arrivals. And…a lot more than usual.”
“Something is happening,” she said sharply, and without another word, started towards the exit of the Tower. Alligator Loki followed, and with only a moment’s hesitation, Kid Loki stood up and headed out with them. She paused only briefly to look around, saying, “Keep things safe for us, Giles. I have faith in you.”
“As you wish, Miss,” The voice of the Tower said dryly, though added with a touch of actual concern, “And do be careful.”
Buffy paused and turned to smile up at one of the many cameras in the Tower. “Always.”
The three exited the Tower to chaos. Stunned, they could only watch as Alioth roared and flowed through the Void, chasing people, catching some, others getting away. But the absolute plethora of people was what shocked them; whenever someone was pruned, or if a small group of people were pruned, they showed up at the arrival point and that was it. Now, it seemed like with every person that appeared, another was not far after them.
“They did it,” Kid Loki whispered, knowing that Loki and Sylvie must have accomplished their goal.
Or at least something akin to their goal.
With people running everywhere in the Void, it was not long before a group ran over to Buffy, Kid Loki, and Alligator Loki’s spot outside the Tower, seeing it as safety.
“What happened?” Buffy demanded as they ran passed her, into the Tower. “What’s going on?”
One of the panicked individuals, wearing the uniform of a TVA officer, knocked right into her, knocking her to the ground with an oof. Ignoring her, he hurriedly pushed himself back upright and ran into the Tower with the others.
Alligator Loki growled and Kid Loki nodded. “You’re right. That was rude.”
“Rude, but useful,” Buffy said in amazement as she slowly stood up, showing them the TemPad the TVA officer had dropped when he knocked into her. “Amazing what people forget when they panic.”
A smile, a true, full, beaming smile crossed her face as she looked at the Lokis. “Ready to blow this popsicle stand?”
“What’s a popsicle?” Kid Loki asked, with a smile of his own as while he didn’t know the exact item she was referring, he understood the meaning.
They were getting out of there.
Shaking her head at him, she motion for him to crouch down by Alligator Loki. Following her lead, he let her wrap her arm around his, so she could keep holding the TemPad in that hand, while her other hand went to grabbing onto Alligator Loki’s front leg with a firm grip.
“No leaving anyone behind,” she said, sending a sad look back at the Tower. “Though I wish I could have gotten to say good bye to Giles.”
“No time,” Kid Loki yelled as Alioth finished off his prey and started towards them. With a firm nod, Buffy tightened her grip on the Lokis and pressed the TemPad.
It was time to get out of the Void. Hopefully, forever.
