Washington, DC
August 2001

It was coincidence that all three of them were in the nation’s capital when the end began. Gibbs may not have believed in coincidence, but there really was no explaining why an alien who rarely left the Colorado area or a traveling werewolf musician would be in Washington, DC when the monsters first arrived.

Nobody realized where the creatures came from because the only people who saw them arrive were the first to be torn apart. While Buffy’s leap into the portal stopped the dimensions from being ripped apart, it was too late the stop the ‘Death Angels’ from breaking through from their dimension. Her friends and family died within seconds of her own death.

The creatures were drawn to portals, so they split up - a few going to Los Angeles to destroy Angel’s group as they arrived back from Pylea - while the majority of the rest raced to Colorado. While the fighters at the SGC were able to kill several of the creatures, they still were overwhelmed. The last act of General Hammond was to set the self-destruct at the base and pray that their teams offworld would be able to stay safe until this threat was neutralized.

If the Angels had remained in North America, the solution would have been a simple - if brutal - one. Before they could be contained, however, they spread to most of the major landmasses with civilization and/or animal life.

Finding out that they were drawn to noise was quickly discovered and sent across the internet in viral tweets, blogs and other social media. That helped some people survive a little longer, but it didn’t save them forever.

Gibbs had been out on a supply run when he came across Teal’c trying to fight one of the creatures. The strange taser gun he had couldn’t completely penetrate the exoskeleton, but it slowed it down long enough for Gibbs to shoot it through the exposed ear drum with his silenced weapon. He stood completely still while he waited for another attack, but nothing came. He carefully walked over to Teal’c and signed hello. Teal’c appeared confused, but nodded that he understood that Gibbs was an ally. Together, they gathered supplies and went back to the Navy Yard where a few survivors were staying.

Once inside, Teal’c was quickly taught sign language so he could communicate. They started planning counterattacks to get rid of the Angels, one of which put Gibbs at risk. They set up a radio in an open area and broadcast noise to draw in the monsters, then dropped the volume when it drew close to force the Angel to open its shell and expose its ears. From a quarter mile away, Gibbs would use his silenced sniper rifle to shoot it.

This worked several times before another one of the creatures heard the actual shot and went for Gibbs. Just as it was about to pounce on him, an arrow struck it in the mouth. Seconds later, the head exploded. Gibbs turned and saw a young man with red hair and a crossbow looking at him. The other man shifted the crossbow to sign, “Hello, my name Oz.”

“Gibbs. Thank you,” Gibbs signed back

“Welcome. Good shooting,” Oz continued the conversation.

And so another stray had been added to the declining group at the Navy Yard.

As the number of survivors dwindled, plans were made for what to do next. Oz suggested that he might know of some people who could help them, but they were on the other side of the country…if they were still alive. When it was down to the three of them, they decided it was worth the risk. If the creatures were demonic in nature - as Oz seemed to think they were - they would need an expert in killing them.

It was a testament to how much the world had changed that Gibbs didn’t even blink when Oz and Teal’c had their discussion about if the Death Angels were aliens or demons. Whatever they were, they had to be destroyed.

A/N: I watched a video once upon a time about how to kill the monsters and when they suggested the sniper thing, I immediately thought of Gibbs.
