Notes: Was going to write a “Dawn's DC Dad's” for Bruce Wayne, but got stuck on the age thing. So I went looking for inspiration for something else and found some old handwritten notes with ideas listed for this tale. I don't believe I've written it before, so it should work for tonight, even if it is a bit short.

Summary: The fact that the big guy had allowed their plan to proceed gave Whistler more than a moment's pause.
Less Unbalanced
By Beriaearwen
On a level far above where mortals live, higher beings were in an uproar. Something unexpected, unplanned and unprecedented had happened and it had changed everything. Plans that had had been in place for millenia had to be set aside or completely overhauled. Smaller plans had to be revamped. Lives that would have been affected positively or negatively now had to be redirected and many given new purposed.
And that only covered the changes they could see. The unseen, unknown changes could be vast. This would ripple through time for eons.
The worst part was, no one knew how it happened or who was behind it. It wasn't interference from above, but no one could track it.
No one but one overlooked balance demon hiding in the corner. But even had only come up with the idea. It would maintain the balance without destroying his favorite champion - hopefully. Not that blondie wouldn't have a tough road anyway, but it gave her a chance and, more importantly, it gave him a chance, one he never would have had otherwise.
The poor kid had a tough enough life in Gotham without what they had planned for him post-resurrection and even the journey after. He knew they were working on both of them to be tougher, to make hard calls, but there was a difference between breaking someone down to build them up and breaking someone. The powers here seemed to have forgotten that.
Even with this plan, the First would still rise. He had every confidence that Buffy would check it just as they had foreseen her doing in the original plan, but with Jason Todd by her side, they had a better chance of doing so without such severe, world-changing consequences.
The biggest danger of Whistler's alternate plan was in revealing the supernatural to the superheroes, but it was a risk that needed to be taken.
It was good thing Janus had been amenable to his suggestions. He was a little surprised by how fond the God of beginnings and endings and doorways and sometimes chaos and order was to it, but then giving people fresh starts - new beginnings - was something the blonde slayer did naturally. That and leave chaos in her wake.
Things were going or had gone as planned - time had less meaning up here. But if he never had to dig up and transport a dead body again, it would be too soon.
The fact that the big guy had allowed their plan to proceed gave Whistler more than a moment's pause. But he was hopeful it meant that He was in agreement.
Whistler's thoughts were drawn away as the Powers That Be called for him.
A balance demon's work was never done.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Down on Earth, a light witch, a dark witch, a former demon and a human called on the darkest magic to bring back the lightest of heroes - a champion.
Just before the part to ensure there were no hitchhikers returning with the one they sought, the ritual was interrupted.
Six feet below, two bodies began to regenerate, when the bodies were ready, two souls were returned and two breaths were taken as two hearts started beating.
Confusion reigned above and below ground.
As the Scoobies scattered, Buffy Summers and Jason Todd reached for each other, calming at the contact. Neither could speak, neither remembered how. They were both in overwhelming shock at going from Heaven to a grave.
The air above was filled with shouts and screams. The air below was stale and running out.
Buffy knew what to do. Every nightmare she'd ever had since becoming the Slayer came back to her and she fought to reach the surface, dragging the other with her.
When they reached the surface, they looked around them. While Buffy focused on her grave marker, the young man once more took her hand.
The noises distracted them and they young man headed toward them, pulling Buffy along as well.
Everything was too loud, too harsh, too sharp, but maybe the noise had ones who could answer the questions they didn't remember how to ask.
