“A whole warehouse burned down.” Simon chewed on his cigar as he paced back and forth in Ellison and Sandburg’s loft. “When the fire department go there it was too far gone and there was nothing to save. Yesterday morning you were getting on Sandburg’s case about cleaning up for company, you called in sick today, and tonight a building is burned down and I find you injured, covered in who knows what, and just who are you and how did you three get involved with their shenanigans?”
Simon Bank’s rant ended when he used his cigar to point at the three men he didn’t know. An older man drinking someone out of one of Sandburg’s anthropologist mugs, a man too young looking to seem to have a military experience like Ellison’s who had a young dark haired man asleep and leaning on him.
“Do you remember you sent us to a conference in Ohio last year and we stayed longer on vacation there?” Jim asked calmly looking to his boss.
“I remember. I spent the whole time waiting for someone to call saying you had gotten involved with a local crime mob or theft ring. I didn’t get called once and it was weird.”
“Let me tell him Jim.” Blair grinned, excited to share his news yet tired after a long stressful day of getting Giles’ from the airport, going to multiple places that Giles with Jon’s help had led them to, ending with a crazy even for them showdown in a building along the waterfront that ended with Xander’s kidnappers somehow disappearing or very quickly running away. “Simon, I want you to meet my brother Xander. Well half-brother, but I’m glad we found each other and got to know him. Giles is Xander’s dad, well not genetic dad, but his dad.”
Simon nodded as Blair explained and when he paused he pointed to the seeming much older than he appeared man holding still, steadily and confidently watching everyone in the room. “Who are you and how did you end up with them?”
Simon would almost swear he could Blair smile as he took a breath, “That’s Jon. He’s Xander’s Jim.”
Giles sipped his tea watching Simon look from Blair and Jim to Jon supporting sleeping Xander. At first confused, figuring it out, very worried, then ending with an expression Giles recognized. The point where Giles would have taken off his glasses to clean them. Giles chuckled watching Simon thinking he should try to meet with him some time to learn more about Xander’s family.
“You mean your brother is and he’s a…. and you’re fine with him Jim?” Confused Simon looked to his longtime friend.
“Yes and Yes. So many things are very different than previous.” Jim happily said looking at the people in his home.
“Tomorrow, I want an explanation and you’re bringing lunch.” Simon said waving his cigar at Jim before shoving it back in a jacket pocket and almost stomping out of the loft apartment.
“Get into scrapes like today often Jim?” Giles asked starting to giggle a bit.
