Summary: Danny's not sure he can handle two of them in his life.
A/N: Not necessarily related to yesterdays fic.
Danny resisted the urge to frown as he noticed that Buffy was no longer paying attention to the conversations flowing around her at the table. She had joined him and his friends for dinner and drinks that evening to celebrate the end of a tough case. Usually his girlfriend was an active participant in whatever crazy discussion his teammates began, but something had distracted her for the last several minutes. Before he had a chance to check in with her, she stood up and began crossing behind him.
“Everything, alright?” He asked, twisting in his chair to look at her.
She gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze and a quick smile, but she didn’t look at him. “Be right back.” Then she slipped through the tables toward the bar. She was clearly aiming for another woman sitting at the other end and he assumed that she was a friend.
He turned his attention back to Steve and had barely picked back up the current argument with his partner when Kono caught his attention. “Danny, I think we might have a problem,” she said, indicating the direction Buffy had gone just a few moments before.
Danny turned to see the woman Buffy had been walking towards was now heading to their table and casting fearful looks behind her. With a frown, he adjusted his posture to peer around her and felt a rock drop in his gut. Buffy was coolly regarding a man who was easily twice her size and clearly more than a little upset.

Buffy moved with purpose as she maneuvered around the tables in the restaurant and plotted out in her head exactly how to handle the situation she was about to insert herself in. The couple had managed to catch her eye from across the room and once she realized what was happening, she couldn't not act. Nearing her target, she pulled out her best California Blonde Girl persona and neatly interrupted the conversation.
“Oh my goodness! I haven't seen you in ages!” She cried, stepping in the woman's line of sight and effectively placing herself between her and the man who was harassing her. Buffy looked directly into the startled woman's eyes and mouthed 'just go with it'.
The other woman's eyes rounded slightly before trying to infect enthusiasm into her voice. “It's been a couple of years, for sure.” Then a smile made an attempt to cross her face.
Buffy stepped closer and wrapped her arms around her in a seemingly familiar hug, and whispered in her ear. “When I turn to him, you are going to walk away and head to that large table in front of the windows. They are cops, you can trust them.” She pulled back and mouthed silently to her again 'trust me'.
In one smooth move, she turned on her heel and flashed a megawatt smile to the man in question. He towered over her despite the fact he was sitting on a bar stool. His pretty face was pinched in confusion as he stared down at her. “I hope you don't mind, it's been so long since we've been able to catch up.” Behind her, Buffy could feel the woman slipping off her bar stool and walking away.
“Hey!” Theman moved as if to follow her but was stopped when Buffy placed one seemingly delicate hand on his chest. He rose to his full height and glared down at her. “What do you think you're doing?” He snarled.
“Saving her,” she smiled sweetly. “I couldn't help but notice by her body language that she most definitely didn't want your brand of attention and you were not taking the hint. So I'm asking you politely, to walk away and leave her be.”
“Shows what you know, we were just talking. We were about to make arrangements for later in the evening,” he sneered.
Buffy's grin turned sharp. “Oh yes, I'm sure you were. Don't think I didn't see you slip that little pill in her drink when her back was turned. You're lucky I got here before she took a drink or I wouldn't be nearly as nice.”
His eyes narrowed. “You can't prove it.”
“I'll just save this for the cops, shall I?” She asked lightly, gesturing to the glass.
His face turned red and he moved further into her personal space as if he could intimidate her purely by his size. “There is still no proof that I placed it in her drink. The word of a woman from across the room won't hold up in court.”
“You would think that, however, I also happen to know that the owner installed cameras covering the entire bar to help catch creeps like you.” His face went from red to white in the space of a heartbeat. “So I'm telling you to leave right now, or I'll make sure you are arrested and charged with attempted rape,” she said calmly, stepping close enough that their clothes brushed.
“You wouldn't have the guts,” he said in a low voice.
Buffy's eyes narrowed and she took a step back to prepare herself for the violence she could see radiating off of him. “Try me,” she countered. Then she nearly rolled her eyes in exasperation as the man clearly telegraphed the punch he threw at her face. Or rather, tried to throw.
She neatly sidestepped the fist and grabbed his wrist as it passed. One quick twist and his arm was suddenly behind his back and she shoved his weight against the bar with her body. Her free hand grabbed his hair in a tight grip before she shoved it on top of the wooden surface. “Wrong choice,” she growled.
“Whoa, what seems to be the problem here,” a man's voice called out.
“This crazy bitch attacked me!”
Buffy looked over to give her boyfriend a pretty pout. “I don't know officer, what did you see?”
“I don't know what he saw, but I clearly saw him attempt to punch you and you quite easily defending yourself,” said Steve, stepping up behind Danny. “But of course, we could always look at camera feed.”
“Camera feeds are quite handy,” Kono pointed out as she stood to the right of Steve.
Buffy gave the native Hawaiian a bright smile. “Especially when you go back far enough to watch creeps place roofies into drinks.” She could feel the man being held under her hands start to tremble. “And I very much would like to press charges for the attempted assault.”
“That sounds like an excellent idea,” Steve said as he stepped around Danny to take over the handling of their miscreant. “You can let him up. I'll take it from here and give Duke a call.”
She couldn't help but give the man one final shove before letting him go and walking away. Danny quickly folded her into his arms. “I don't know if I can handle this,” he said.
“Handle what?” she asked as she slid her own arms around his waist.
“Two of you.”
“Huh?”
He nodded to his partner. “The two of you. Rushing into danger without giving anyone a warning.”
She frowned at him. “In my defense, I didn't think he'd try to hit me. But I couldn't not do something when I saw what was happening.”
“And that is one of the reasons why I think you are amazing,” he said and he gave her a soft smile that quickly dropped and a sigh escaped his lips. “But you and Steve are going to give me a heart attack.”
