Park in Boston
Oz was cutting through the park, trying to contain his wolf while seeing how much of the senses he could use. He couldn’t afford another slip like attacking Tara. Knowing that Willow had moved on was hard enough, but being responsible for her new lover’s death? It would have destroyed him.
Suddenly he got a sickeningly strong whiff of blood in the air. If it was one person, they were probably dead…
He ran towards the smell, getting a stake out in case it was vampires. In the back of his mind, he doubted that would be the case because he wouldn’t be smelling so much blood - unless they were wasting it. That was unlikely.
He came out of the woods and saw a man stabbing himself next to a vehicle. That was different. Even from where he was at, Oz could see the dead woman in the passenger seat.
Oz scanned the area, searching for signs that somebody was controlling the man with threats or mind control. Granted if it was mind control, who knew how close the demon or whatever had to be.
When he didn’t see anything, he carefully snuck closer and heard the man muttering stuff about the woman being weak and how this would keep the cops from suspecting him. In a way, it was impressive how the man could precisely slide the knife in and out of his body, making it look like an attack, but giving himself the best chance for survival. Impressive, but highly disturbing. Oz never wanted to see what this monster would be capable of as a vampire.
Seeing a payphone nearby, Oz went over and called the police. “I’m in the Emerald Necklace Park, and there’s a guy stabbing himself. There’s a woman with him and I think he killed her as well.” He gave a description of the area and explained that he wasn’t going to approach the man because he didn’t want to get stabbed as well. He promised to stay in the area until the authorities arrived.
Because he was so focused on creating himself as a victim, Foyet didn’t notice the stranger watching him or calling the police. It wasn’t until he made his way to the payphone that he noticed it was already off the hook. He didn’t remember it being off the hook earlier…had it?
Picking up the receiver, he didn’t hear a dial tone and grew alarmed. He could hear something on the other end. “Hello?” he ventured a word.
“Sir? Are you still safe?” the female voice on the other end responded. “The police are almost there.”
“What?!” he exclaimed in alarm, looking around for a sign of somebody watching. He slammed the phone down and started back towards his vehicle. Could he still pull this off? He wasn’t sure anymore. Maybe it would be better to disappear and try again somewhere else.
He went to the passenger side and pulled his girlfriend of a few weeks out, dumping her on the ground like trash. Just as he was about to climb in to drive away, he heard somebody behind him.
Staying far enough away that the psycho with a knife couldn’t get a lucky stab in, Oz called out to stall him, “You must have a pretty good pain threshold to be able to stab yourself so many times. If you hadn’t done it as a cover for killing her, I’d sort of be impressed.”
Foyet was enraged that this little punk kid ruined his perfect plan and started ranting at him. He tried to get close enough to attack, but the kid kept backing out of range. With the blood loss, Foyet wasn’t sure he could lunge successfully.
When he heard the sirens, he realized that he could allow himself to be captured, then break out later…becoming even more famous than a normal serial killer.
Oz saw the change in the guy and was reminded again of vampires for some reason. It might come back to haunt him later, but he decided that the man couldn’t be taken alive. He was just too dangerous for that. When he could hear the cops getting close, he taunted the man by sneering softly, “Why’d you do it? Did she find out you were a dickless wonder? Maybe you couldn’t satisfy her? Couldn’t get it up? Or maybe you just weren’t man enough in any way for her!”
At that, Foyet snapped and attempted to attack the punk kid just as the cops came around the bend behind him. They called out for him to stop, but he was too far gone to hear anything but the blood pumping in his ears. As he drew closer to the kid so he could stab him to death, dozens of bullets riddled his body, dropping him to the ground.
Oz immediately put his hands in the air without being told and waited for the police to question him. When they finally got to why he allowed Foyet - the killer’s name - to see him, much less attack him, Oz replied, “He was getting ready to run and I didn’t want him to get away with killing her. She deserved better than that.”
“Do you know the victim?” one of the detectives, named Shaunessy, enquired.
Shaking his head, Oz answered, “No, but it’s true no matter who she is.”
“We’ll need you to come in to give a statement,” Shaunessy said. This was a messy one and it would certainly be scrutinized by the brass.
“No problem,” Oz assured him, “This guy was scary sick and twisted. Some of the stuff he was saying made me think he planned to kill again.”
A/N: I know it seems weird Oz is so talkative, but blame the Nyquil for that.
