“Hey, Bucky-boy,” Dawn greeted her son with the pet name he was young enough to allow. Looking her boy over, she noticed the slumped shoulders and downcast expression. “What's up?” she asked, dropping onto the couch next to her son.

“The Headmaster sent a note home,” he said, handing her the paper, he began fiddling with his fingers.

Dawn couldn't image what he could have done that required the headmaster to get involved, but, then again, this was her son. It also probably meant if he was bringing home a note, then so were Chris and possibly Josiah. The trio were all going to the same school and, for this year, were in the same class. Opening the note, Dawn's eyebrows rose higher and higher. It wasn't a bad note, in fact the Headmaster had nothing but praise for Buck and his actions, and, while most of her was proud of her son and his actions, part of her was also worried about the possible danger he had courted.

Placing the paper on the table in front of her, she placed her arm around Buck and hugged him tightly to her. “The Headmaster says you noticed that some kids were getting sick and you, Josiah and Chris figured out it was coming from one of the older kids.”

“Yeah,” Buck admitted.

Dawn suppressed a chuckle. The trio had been ATF agents prior to their de-aging and it seemed some things just didn't change. Bad alcohol or bad candy, they would find the people responsible and set things right. “He also said he wanted to have a special award ceremony with the students, teachers and parents to let them know what happened, give you an award and let everyone know what he's doing to keep it from happening in the future.”

“Yeah,” Buck agreed, not sounding nearly as enthusiastic as she had expected.

“So, if all this is good, what's the problem?”

A huge sigh escaped the small boy. “When we stopped the bad guys, everyone was cheering and stuff.”

Sensing they'd finally gotten to root of the matter she asked, “And stuff?”

“It was awful.”

“What was so awful about it?” Dawn asked, baffled by his continued downcast attitude.

“There were girls and they kissed me!” Buck exclaimed, hands flying up as he stood and started pacing. “They kissed me, Mommy! I don't want them to kiss me.”

Dawn struggled to contain her laughter. Given Buck's lifestyle before he was de-aged, it was truly funny that he was upset over girls kissing him. But she also knew it was just a phase. “Did they kiss you on the lips?” she asked, once she felt she could be serious.

“No,” Buck admitted. “Just on the cheek.”

“OK. That's no different than what some of the slayers do when they see you and you don't mind it then.”

“But they're women and family. They're allowed.”

“True and if you don't want someone to kiss you, you need to tell them no,” Dawn assured, reaching for her son as she did her best to ignore the distinction he made about the slayers. “Now, can I give you a kiss and a big hug?”

Buck's face lit up in a beautiful smile. “Anytime, anywhere,” he assured, throwing his arms around her neck and returning her hug with all his might.

“That's my boy,” she whispered to him. “What say we celebrate by going out to dinner tonight?”

“McDonalds?” he asked excitedly.

Dawn couldn't help her cringe. Somewhere along the way she'd grown up enough that a trip to McDonalds with the screaming kids on the playland toys was no longer her idea of a good time. “How about Sally's,” she countered, offering up a cafe she knew he liked.

“Deal.”
