Well, that's fairly reasonable behavior.... Sirius seems to have recovered from Azkaban more than I would have expected at that point. Maybe he'll behave himself now?

Not necessarily, people act differently with people they know and people they don't. With strangers, people try to act more civilized, for lack of a better word, in an unconscious attempt to be accepted. It doesn't always work, and even if it does it doesn't hold up over time...
