I saw Arcade Fire last night, and damned if my high expectations (especially after reading about Fran's experience - thought of you during 'my body is a cage') weren't exceeded. Wow! The array of instruments and personalities on the stage are really impressive. The stomping, clapping fervour in the crowd made me feel like I was witnessing a faith healing. If Win had asked me to pony up my life savings at the end of the gig to support the cause/be saved (something broad-brush-stroke about George Bush, lies and darkness, bullying, police disco lights etc) I probably would have asked where to sign. After my ears almost exploding with the huge noise coming from the stage for 1.5 hours, the band finished up with a cover of a violent femmes song which was absolutely perfect.
I didn't even mention the support, spoon, who I think I might've gotten a bigger buzz out of. Britt Daniels and his tight work with his drummer, rock star moves, tight jeans and hair sticking up everywhere and class-conscious, combative, intelligent 4 minute songs can send a shiver up my spine all by himself.
Am feeling a bit tired and flat today, those kind of highs make the daily routine seem more a grind.
